I just called for insurance on my GSR 750 miway gave me a quote of R897! I almost fell off my chair. My twister is only R193 and my figo is R625, so I'm quite surprised. Would you consider this a fair price?

Thanks. Three questions. You can basically use this to claim for new tyres once year? What's with the Harley Davidson fitment centres? Is this applicable to Harley's only?

"They're selling hippie wigs in Woolworths..." and all.

To be frank I've never seen the appeal of any Cafe Racer.

Some are good to look at sure, but I never actually want to ride the thing.

Last year when we rode to Sutherland my buddy dropped his wallet in the petrol fill up bay.

Half way there travelling offroad he realised it was missing. They called the BMW support vehicle that was coming much later who went to inquire by the garage and actually got it back only with a little damage as a car had rolled over it.

By the evening he had gotten it back all the way across the country.

I can't tell you though how many times I've ridden with the keys in the top box lock or in the side under seat lock.

It's why I've learnt to keep that Virgin Credit Card freebie in a separate location whenever I travel, just in case I should lose my wallet.

So, 750 kms and nine hours of riding later my thoughts are:

The K1200RS was a far better experience than doing this on the CBR250R (obviously). That said holy **** my legs and particularly my knees and ass are so ****ing sore. Good lord...

Speed - Well, legalities aside, I have found the speed at which I am most assuredly not comfortable. That being said, if I had full leathers, top notch gear and a brand new bike, I reckon I'd really enjoy a road without speed limits. The bike is a beast. Unbelievable power. Dangerously so. Also, a total and utter petrol whore. Would have been cheaper to take a bus.

All in all, it was an excellent ride. I enjoyed it even though I should have done it two legs, but overall, a great intro to bigger bikes and long distance touring trips. I am keen to upgrade to a more reliable bike and get full bore gear but one step at a time.

Exhausting day, but got me so wired, I've not been able to get a damned wink of sleep.

Yeah the older non-boxers aren’t so easy on juice, but you also come off a tiny little bike so would be interesting to see your actual usage stats to see if it’s unexpectedly heavy or not.

Glad you made it safely and had a good time.

Part of why I hate pushing too far is that I end up the same and get no sleep for having pushed past the edge and also the body aches keeping me awake.

Cruise control is magic for those long straight boring bits, so it sucks not to have that on yours.

Who do you go visit there? The folks?

It does in fact have a cruise control, which is either not working, or I do not know how to use it. There are some diagnostic tests I can run, which I will do when I'm back.

Yeah - visiting family in PE then flying to Joburg for work for three weeks, back to PE and then rideong back to CT mid October. It's going to be along month.

I would be interested in the consumption, perhaps on the way back I'll take some fuel, run it dry and see how far I get.

All that said, this bike is a stopgap. I really do want to get something out of the box, and versatile enough to manage trips like this and also the 10km commute to work.

Open to suggestions.

I like the NCX750X, but that didn't go down too well last time I mentioned it...
