Very impressive.

Just wish they made a 150 or something so beginners don't get license locked.

Then again renting a bike for the test is easy.

If they make a 250 Grom (or bike with its dimensions) I'm buying it. Best commuter if you don't mind taking the long way.

Washed my bike and inspected the tyres just to find a huge screw stuck in there. I was planning on replacing the front and rear tyre because they are terrible tyres. Almost lost the bike a few times in the rain. Now I need to see which tyres I can find in SA for my MSX125. My KTM 690 SMC R also needs a new rear tyre soon. Have to find out how much that is going to cost me :crying:

If you find decent ones let me know. I've been very close to losing it in the wet and close to roadworks with sand in the road.

If you ride every day Pilot a Road 4's.

No question.
I ride every day and I don't know what this means?

I had a hole in my tyre this week.
New rear tyre and 9000 km service was about R950.

I'm halfway saving up for a Duke 390. Few more months to go.

What app is this?

Fuelly.

Brand : Michelin

Model : Pilot Road 4

It's an "every day" tyre that is one or the first with anti-rain aquaplane technology and a hard compound in the middle for higher mileage but softer in the sides for grip.

My Triumph came with Pirelli Diablo Rosso II's which is a super sticky tyre. Sounds good but in reality it's rubbish as it only works when it's at temperature.

Stop for even 30 seconds at a robot on a colder day, not even a wet one, and th e grip is gone again.

I got 18000 out of them and they were shot.

I now have 18000 on the Pilot Road 4's and they seem to be ready for at least another 10000km.

People are very quick to look at track test and choose tyres based on that, but the reality is that a supposedly super sticky track tyre doesn't automatically do well on the road. It's only sticky when it's really warm and keeping it that way is very tricky.

So buy the tyre made for the purpose and you riding style.

Some advice if you folks would be so kind.

I've been casually keeping an eye out for a good deal on a second-hand Duke 390 and ended up looking at one on the weekend being sold by a fried of a friend. It's a late 2014 model with a mere 630km on the clock. Bike is in showroom condition having only be taken out a few times by the current owner. Extras included crash bars and longer windshield. Owner is asking R50000 and is reluctant to budge on price. Good deal?

Based on the few second-hand Dukes I could find out there on Bikefind, Autotrader, OLX, etc.. it seems like a decent deal but I could simply be searching in the wrong places. Any input is appreciated.

Where's the best place to start looking for a second hand bike, specificely harley?

Searched on Autotrader, and the prices are odd, they range between 60 and 100k - but the years don't make sense, e.g. a 2015 for 69k and a 2013 for 100k... and there are multiple examples like that.

Speak to Tyrone at HD cape town, he got me a very good deal when I bought mine.
o seven 9 319 8 six 0 six

Another q. what is the insurance on bikes like?

I'm paying R300ish on a 2015 HD 48 Sportster.

Thanks - we're actually facebook friends from way back when he drove a RX8 - I've been thinking of dropping him a line, but need to commit to going the HD route before wasting his time.

Also a bit nervous testing/buying/insuring a bike with only a learners :p

I would ask how the hell a 2014 bike only has 630km on the clock.

That means it hasn't even had it's first service...which should have been an annual one so it's already possibly lost it's warranty.

My exact question to the owner on the weekend. Guy bought the bike for his wife in 2015. She completed a basic and advanced riding course using the bike and tailed him on one trip on his CBR. He apparently gunned it and she got spooked trying to keep up. Never used the bike after that.

As you point out, it hasn't gone in for it's first service yet and she has to follow up on warranty but will get back to me. It sounds like it was a 2014 model registered in 2015.
