@Archer & fish-man....

I'm a member of the BMW Motorrad Club KZN, been one for 3 years now and actually became a committee member last month. Typically we don't see many superbikes (RR maniacs) join the club, its 95% GS riders with the occasional GS rider with too much money and has an RT or GT for the easy stuff... Our club has fantastic members, the support and wealth of experience / knowledge of products is invaluable.

Group riding is well organised and done in a safe manner, always a leader and a tail. We follow a proven recipe for riding, staggered formation, safety distances, good etiquette on gravel so as not to roost the guys behind. Always wait at turns for the next guy behind to catch up. In all its great fun. We ride once every two weeks, typically anything from 10 to 25 bikes at a time. An average ride would be between 200 and 350km.

Additional to that, we arrange long weekend rides two or three times a year for the whole club, our next one is in August to the Hole in the Wall on the wild coast. Then regularly smaller groups will arrange other trips, 5 of us did 3 days through Lesotho earlier this year. Others did the West Coast Train & Ride from JHB.

The point is you get to meet great people and see lots of new places, even if just within your province. I'd say its worth the membership fee, which for KZN is R400 per annum!

Tested the new tyres this morning. Lane splitting when a taxi just opened its front door. Hard on the brakes. Bike stopped on a dime. This is not the case with the stock tyres. With stock tyres I would have skid a bit.

Are these official BMW clubs supported by the dealers or what?

Bought and installed Sena Smh5-fm paid R2300, great device, much louder, very good call quality, tested at 120km/h and wind noise was so low the other person didn't know I was on the bike. At 80km/h it sounds like I'm in a quiet room. Haven't tested intercom.

Sounds great, I will make a plan soon to take a ride out with the cape town guys, I know they also operate exactly like you have explained.

Check out No Noise plugs.

Got myself a set and I suddenly feel sorry for those not wearing earplugs at highway speeds, much much softer wind noise, I can still hear enough to have a conversation with someone and be aware of my surroundings. But mostly the increased comfort when riding on highways. Definitely recommend wearing plugs.

I also purchased a pair, yet to test them out, probably do so this weekend.

Yup they are the best compromise I've found where you don't feel blocked up like you have a cold and can still hear what you really do need to hear as well.

Pricey, but then if you don't lose them they'll last as long as multiple pairs of disposables and probably cost the same.

Those are half the price of mine, I consider yours cheap :p

Got them serviced as well about a month ago (for free) and detuned it a bit at the same time so I could hear more. Feel like they are brand new again :D

I keep them in the the provided container attached to the bike key. So I don't see myself losing them.
