Actually have no idea but would look into it when my warranty expires.

I know Wesbank offered me one with my finance but that would be silly for a bike that still has factory warranty.

I'm actually looking at this for my car. Not sure about motorcycles, but it seems like a car must still be under factory warranty to qualify

Most car warranties have a requirement that the car needs less than 200 000km, or less than 10 years old (example). I would assume motorcycle warranty would be the same?

Guys, Im looking for an extended warranty for my motorcycle, something that will cover me in the case of mechanical breakdown.

I know you get quite a few options when it comes to cars, does anyone have any experience with warranties for bikes?

Recommendations who to use, who to stay clear of?

A company named Liquid Capital did some form of maintenance plan / extended warranty on a friend of mines Triump they he had to fight a bit with them to get reliable service.

Yeah heard great things from the dealer about Liquid Capital...not so great from the owners.

When I bought my Triumph it didn't make sense for my mileage. More applicable to weekend warriors.

Eish, Ive also heard horror stories about some of these 3rd party companies. All good and well, until you want to claim

I think Im going to phone up a few bike mechanics, and ask them what policies are the least amount of hassle when claim stage comes.

Raaito,

After some calling around, I can confirm Liquid capital does not offer warranties on motorbikes any longer.

Thus far, Ive managed to obtain a quote from SA Warranties, still waiting for Motorite to get back to me. Strangely enough, I spoke to a Yamaha dealer this morning, and they recommended the Hollard plan. Phoned Hollard, they didnt even know it existed?

On to my next question, can anyone recommend an RMI approved mechanic in JHB that doesnt form part of a stealership?

Why RMI? Have heard they are "toothless" when it comes to dealing with issues. Not my assertion. Just what Ive heard.
As for JHB bike mechanics. I only ever trusted Flying Spanner in Edenvale (0824887794). Head mech (Dennis) is ex Triumph. Never had an issue with them. Bike was always ready on time. Always on budget.

Just about every warranty will require an RMI-approved dealer as part of their terms and conditions.

Initially, work and back - beat the traffic.

Was going with a Harley 883, but starting to doubt their service (as a cash buyer I'd expect a bit more interest, not ignored emails) ... so looking at other options.

Harley Cape Town or Tygervalley? There is a VAST difference between the two.

Can't go wrong with the 800 for traffic either and it's certainly easier to handle than the HD for that.

How tall are you though?

Cape Town...

Tall... 1.87m Heavy...108kg... but that's normal for this time of year. Will drop to 90kg by year end.

Best you come out north and visit Tygervalley then.

Not that I want to dissuade you from a BMW...but you'll find it's a world of difference at Tygervalley.

Also owned by different people to Cape Town so it's not just two brances, but two completely different setups. (Cape Town has folded more than once).

I'm keen on the 883 as a first bike, not as practical as the BMW - but why the hell not :p I asked for a complete price this morning so I can start making the funds available - if I don't get a response by the end of the week, I'll call Tygervalley.

One thing I don't do is beg people to take my money, especially if its cash.
