The ninja is a nice little bike hey. I seem to be getting mixed feelings about the 400s. My step dad who is a 60 year old biker seems to think i should get myself a smaller 250.

I dont see the problem with a 400.
 
My Nephew rides an old (import) CBR 400 (I think its a NC23), that thing goes bloody well! He put a new body kit on it, looks like a mini blade. Good Looker.

The lights look wrong for a NC23. Need to see the side, does it have a big part of the frame sticking out the side under the tank? (NC29). But the fairing doesn't look right. Should be round lights iirc.

edit: I see googling it now, seems you do get a newer version of the NC23. Same bike new kit ?

The NC30s look great. but was looking a zx4 the other day. Beauty. So now the question becomes. would it be better to buy a older less expensive 400 or a newer more expensive 250 like the 250 ninja?

I would go for this. However choose carefully. If you do buy make sure it's a common import. Like the NC23 or NC29. The RVF or VFR, Suzuki GK76 or a Suzuki Bandit. Don't get anything apart from these, you won't get parts.

We imported a body kit, changes the look as you can see to look more modern.

Whats the general opinion here on Dual Sport helmets... been looking around and I rather fancy the ICON Variant. Its on the medium to upper scale on price, coming in at roughly R5500.

Always use an On-road AGV helmet no matter on or off-road. Just don't like the whole face being covered in dust when I take the goggles and helmet off :o

That being said. I would take this for sure. Beats the Off-road helmets.
 
I'll be looking at a DS helmet next time. Not that I regret my current one, but the bit of shade and breathing room is sure to help on full day rides I think. I would however like to get one with the flip down sun visor, and a removable peak (for CT windy winters, the peak can be irritating then) but might not be an issue if I get a wind deflector for the screen. Then again, depending how the inside of the helmet is I may switch to normal sunglasses and forego the fighter pilot add on... it's all very confusing, just get the one you like :p

edit: you looked at the Uvex helmets?

Photo of my bike taken at the Springbok Rally held recently at De hoek Mountain Resort. It's a 2004 Suzuki Intruder 800cc, lovely bike and rides like a dream. My bike is my main means of transport each day.

My other bikes includes a 1971 Yamaha FS1 (fizzy), it's my very first bike which my dad bought me 32 years ago. Then I also have a lovely 2008 Bajaj Avenger 180cc and a 2013 Jonway scooter 150cc.

My previous bikes which I have owned was a 1984 Yamaha LB80 Chappy, 1989 Yamaha RZ50 and a 1986 Suzuki GS450S.

But but... its on the grass, how did you get it there with those road tyres?! :p Quite a nice looking machine, even for me that really doesn't like that style. Seems to be a shaft drive, or am I imagining things?

Any more takers for a brekkie run on the morning of 7 Dec?
 
Yes it's a shaft drive, way less maintenance than a chain and not so messy.

I'm planning on adding a 1400 Intruder to my collection as soon as I can find one locally that's in a good condition. The 800 is watercooled and the 1400 aircooled. Nothing wrong with watercooled, but it's just one more thing that can leave you stranded at the roadside. I love cruisers, never was a big fan of superbikes. I love to be able to take in the scenery while I ride.

What's it like riding long distance without a screen, doesn't it tire you out? I did it for a very short while while looking for specific bolts on a new screen I had ordered and it felt like you have to really hold on if you're going faster than 80km/h

On the water vs air, I have a suspicion we won't be seeing very many air cooled machines in future - emissions standards are getting too stringent :/
