I haven't yet no, but it is supposed to be the same engine and setup as the S1000R?
I love the look of road bikes, and the practicality of the dual purpose, so on paper the XR ticks more boxes than any other. Guess I'll have to give it a go and see for myself.

The 1200GS, 1000R, 1000RR, 1000XR are all seriously good bikes, the 800GS too.

It's not a dual purpose at all.

Not even remotely. It just looks like one.

Even if you put knoblies on that thing the engine characteristics would make it impossible off-road (I would imagine, my experience is limited).

It's a pure road bike in a seemingly more comfortable upright frame, but it ends up just being very confused.

Don't use your insurance.

Use the specific Harley provider who have very good rates.

Also who is your insurance? Direct?

AON Insurance brokers, already told them its not happening.

Got quotes from Harley yesterday, various from about R320 till R620 depending on options... much better

Paying around R400 for my 1200 sportster with Discovery (bear in mind it's a 2008 model)

Thanks... won't touch Discovery though. Did you get a quote from Harley for comparison, I like the tyre cover which covers wear and tear....

(also, bare in mind I only have my learners, although it looks like I'll do my license before purchasing)
 
Hey so what's the deal with removing number plates or putting a sticker to hide a few numbers or letters. I get that in the event of some spirited riding on public roads you won't get fines but my question is don't you get pulled over often enough and get fines for not displaying a plate that it's better to just keep the plate?

I mean here in jhb there's a few biker cops and surely they'd pull you off right? Or for instance you get caught on camera a few times in your local area wouldn't they eventually come searching for you even without having the plate in their photos. I mean the gear you wear would surely identify you in your local area?

I see more bikes without plates than I see with plates in jhb.
 
Not sure if this is fact , some of the guys were saying they keep the number plate under the seat slightly damaged and say the plate fell off , apparently the fine for that is R150 as opposed to R1500 for no plate/non regulation plate .

I keep my licenses disk under my seat and number plate on .

No licence plate = traffic fine
Hiding parts or changing your number plate = defeating the ends of justice which I think becomes a criminal matter and not a traffic violation

My theory is that if you're seeing a lot of these people they are probably coming out ahead (in terms of fines they would've paid). In my books though they are simply scum.
 
Bike is making some kind of dak dak dak sound... I put it on its center stand (ABS and traction control off), first gear and gave it just a bit to get the engine (and back wheel) moving so I could listen. Maybe I didn't give it enough petrol and it was more of a stalling sound... Going to check it out during lunch again, will be easier if I can sit on the bike and someone else listens - I'm really nervous about it dropping off the stand and going wild :p

I've experienced something similar on my bike and can feel a faint 'shudder' when I'm on it but it only happens first thing in the morning just as I'm leaving my street. One street further and it's gone completely. If I leave the office really late I sometimes hear it again. In my case it seems the bike needs to be shut off for quite some time before it happens. Also doesn't necessarily happen each day, only when I'm slightly 'lazy' on the throttle in first gear.
 
Supermoto rider here. I have a KTM 690SMC R.

Pro's of having a WR450SM is that it's fun. Wheelies. Fun.
Con's, Since it is an offroad bike, you will have to service it more often than a factory road legal Sumo like a DRZ400sm or a 690SMC.

Either way, you are going to have fun. I consider my grom a mini Supermoto

Am I correct that you can't by SM anymore new?

Doesn't seem as if the K1300S ever make the discussions on forums !! OK I'm biased ...
 
Hey guys, so I'm just trying to think of ways I can display my medical aid details for the bike, I got the normal sticker that goes on car Windows but I don't like that idea, do you guys have other ideas?

I don't always keep my wallet with me when I go riding, so that identifier is also a no go. I was thinking of a keyring type deal?
