I think Triumph offers similar rider gear options to BMW at a slightly better price.

Guys, how good are the Spirit riding gear. I'm looking into their boots, which are half the price of the Rst and Alpinestars versions. How is the quality for that price range?

It's much of a muchness really and very similar in price but I think BMW wins on quality overall.

Triumph is generally more trendy in style.

Personally I wouldn't trust it. And bizarrely I'm actually buying BMW boots this winter because they weren't outrageous when I priced them.

Check if you don't see the Thor brand at Trac Mac they seemed quite decent when I was there last.

Spirit is a rebrand of something or another more than likely Chinese so from one product to another I'm not even sure it's all the same.

That being said for half the price you could buy again next year. But if you paid the price now maybe you wouldn't need to replace next year so it's a catch 22.

My Sidi's are now 12+ years old and cost me R2500 back then. They've been re-soled and re-zipped but are still going strong. So you do sometimes get what you pay for.

After my recent glove experience I would go RST over A*.

Mmmm, that's something I haven't thought of.

I'm looking strongly at the Rst tractec boots (would love to get a white pair of a/stars SMX6 boots) , and I love the look of the a/stars SP-8 gloves, don't really like the look of the Rst versions.... I'm now not sure anymore

Wouldn't go with Spirit myself either. Tried on a helmet, felt very hard inside, cushioning is either just bad or there is not enough of it. Jacket also felt that way, couldn't figure out why though. But the gloves seemed decent at the time.

Now if I can just afford to replace my BMW gear.

Switching to the Brits?

Given the service my 800 has given me never. In the riding gear area I might consider alternatives to BMW's riding gear and Triumph's gear seems like a good alternative. I have disassembled a navigator jacket in store to verify the CE stamp on every single armour piece and some of the design choices in terms of pockets etc makes a bit more sense than BMW's. Examples are RFID card slots on the left and right wrist versus the left wrist on the BMW one, more watertight pockets and it is also 2k cheaper.

They are just rebrands but I'm buggered if I can remember now who makes it all.

Finally got myself something decent. This monday past i bought a 2009 BMW F800S with 15k on the clock. The bike is in stunning condition. What a change from a $%^$% Hyosung.

Anyone know of a decent adventure bike rental in Cape Town? Lowest I can find is like R1350 a day for a F700GS..

I know Mike Hopkins rents out Triumphs now or has a partner that does.

But that's about the going rate so doubt it will be much different.

Seriously low annual mileage! Safe miles :-)

I know its not adventurer, but Harley Davidson cape town have the cheapest bike rentals in the country. Worth a look IMHO.

Especially since they charge less than f11cken vespa rentals.
