Now WTF is the point of that?

Honestly gives you absolutely no idea of how much you have left to go except if you run it dry once to check.

The liters used gives some idea at least if you remember how big the reserve is. But even that is silly and in my situation where I don't know the bike is meaningless.

yeh, not useful at all... i have a 14.1L tank, but haven't filled up more than 12 once!

The light comes on and then it starts at zero with a trip computer.

It was at 78km by the time I got to the garage not wanting to risk it any further. My friend with a GS800 after the fact says to me "don't go over 30..."

Interesting. Thanks.

Is that 30 racing to a petrol station, or 30 barely going over 50kph :crylaugh:

On a side note my 700GS did the same this morning, I was very confused when it first came on.

No idea.

I was riding liberally when it was clocking 78km.

But then I only picked it up by about 70km so no idea how the previous 70 went.

I may end up bumping this post occasionally - so apologies in advance...

Anybody in JHB know a reliable motorcycle electrician that is prepared to do a house call? A good mechanic I have - and I'm not looking for a mechanic that "knows electrical".
I would prefer somebody well versed in 12v on bikes as Im looking to basically cut the loom off my KTM that Im converting to a naked street fighter and neatening up the rats nest the previous owner left behind. Feel free to PM me details please.

Dark Electrical - they are in Malvern. Been around since forever & know their stuff.

It’s the sub standard trimmed down version of the real thing.

Also no idea how @blu82 reckons this bike vibrates less than the 1200.

Between the chain drive and the engine my ass was numb by the time I got home.

In 2009 the 800GS vibrated less than the 1200GS but the stock seat is a razor. I have ridden the 700GS once it was in a no mans land between the 600GS and 800GS for me.

Yeah I don’t like the 800GS I rode recently which was a 2016/2017 model.

The 700 seems a bit softer and more road friendly all round.

Didn’t have any complaints about the slightly older 800’s mind you. But didn’t spend that much time with them.

800GS Adventure had the "Comfort" seat, was not too bad. The parallel twin (650, 700 & 800 variants) all vibed my hands to a tingle after an hour. The 1200 LC still gives me a numb bum after a few hours. I had to fit an Airhawk seat pad to help. But that's just me, my coccyx gets sore too easily. Another factor to keep in mind is the tyre you are using, knobblies will make the bike vibrate too.

These aren’t knobblies at all so it’s not that.

I have not been on the 700 myself, but did ride the 650 (essentially the exact same bike). The mag rims and smaller front tyre makes for a more "street" oriented ride. Not sure on exact differences on suspension, but the 700 & 800 share the same frame & subframe. The motor on all three is the same, only detuned a bit.

Apparently there is a 900 variant in the works... could be interesting.

Yeah on the topic of detuning I don’t know how the new 310 or other smaller bikes feel even remotely safe at 120.

When the 700 gets there it’s out of poke to do anything more in gear and if there’s wind it gets pretty unstable.

Maybe the G310R will have an aerodynamic advantage.

My mates KTM 690 is way more potent but you can’t take that thing over 140 before it loses the plot entirely and tries to buck you off with a head shake.

Anyone retrofitted heated grips to their bike, and can recommend a brand/kit?
The Honda OEM ones are like $300 - too rich for my taste as much as I'd like to go that route.

Usually the Oxford ones are the go to third party.

But do yourself a favour and just get a local price too for the OEM ones. You might be surprised.

The Oxfords won’t be dramatically cheaper either. Still looking at a grand or two.

Most KTooM's are more potent then their rivals :D
Smooths out after 140 though
