BMW seriously rocks in the service department. ( Donford Cape Town.) Seriously...it's stellar.The sales department....a little bit off but not bad at all.

Currently looking at a KTM against my own better Judgements the as I know KTM CT service is shocking in comparison, but I need another taste of the orange cool-aid :)

Had a Honda XR150, Transalp and a NC750X DCT.
Yeah....Honda. Their bikes better be reliable since the rest Sucks, nevermore waiting weeks and weeks for things as simple as a side stand or switch.

Well, I own both a Honda car and bike. As far as cars go I doubt I'd get another one. Their service is pathetic and the interior build quality... well, I've had the car taken back three times and it's not solved yet.
 
Yeah folks had a Honda as well. Quite a few issues and bad trade in on the day. They also are anti Honda.

I personally won't go that far but their reputation is not really deserved in my experience with them so far.
I'm sure it was just coincidence though. Lots of people very happy with them.
 
I am in two minds on what to do with my faded plastics on the KLR.

Either I want to try see if I can buff them all nice and shiny again with a heat gun and a polisher or see if I can paint them.

The first option is the cheaper, easier option as painting will involve buying primer and paint and materials used to prep the plastics. Also, I am not sure how well it would hold up to flexing as the side panels and front mudguard especially will move quite a bit with use.

This is more or less what I have in mind, but I will keep the tank stock standard with the stickers and gloss paint still attached:

Have you explored the option of getting it wrapped - there's also a spray on vinyl wrap that is also a fairly thick coating
 
The spray-on wrap sounds appealing - is it like Plastidip?
 
Plastidip on flexable plastic I'm not sure about. I've done it on metal etc and works awesome.

If it was me i'd just get a lekker Decal kit that you like.
Something like this.

You can go more plain as well if these are too "loud"


Looks great and will cost you less than the plastidip or other wraps.
There is a reason we do it all the time with dirtbikes.
 
That decal kit looks really good! I wonder if they'll have one for the Fugly KLR's (2007 and earlier). I agree that I am a bit worried about the flexible parts, something which I wouldn't need to worry about with a decal.

I pulled off all the decals on the plastics as they were looking crappy anyway. The only untouched surface is the tank. That said, it is a KLR and it isn't exactly a beautiful bike to begin with :D
 
If you love it, please don't plastidip it... :-(
(we have a long running inside joke in our circle about one guy plastidipping everything)
 
The Spray on vinyl is like the vinyl wrap, but it is applied like one would do with spraypaint or rubberizer - obviously thinner and smoother that rubberrizing. Big + on this is that is takes the shape of the object and there is no cutting and joining like you see on car bumpers

Yup they do, the second link I posted is the older KLR.
P.S They are all Fugly :D
So good though. When the atom bombs fall. We will all be riding KLR's.

But what happens in 3-5 years when it's fading? How do you get it off?

At the end of the day as mass production goes not every vehicle will be perfect and that's why the dealership itself often makes or breaks it.

Getting a dud vehicle isn't so bad if the dealership in question handles it properly and looks after you.

For that matter another positive to BMW...

When I bought my car (a Volkswagen) from SMG Cape Town the whole experience was stellar until the aircon died literally two weeks after owning it. Figured now I'm in for a world of pain as I bought a non-BMW from a BMW dealer.

Couldn't be further from the truth. I took the car to them for a quick initial assessment so they could confirm what's going on. They arranged a courtesy car for me and delivered it to my office coming to collect my car and then I drove that car for I seem to recall two weeks while they sorted it out.

Valeted my car to apologize for the inconvenience and delivered it back to me again at the office without any real drama to me at all.

It's one of the reasons I would consider buying a BMW even though I don't much like their cars.

Had someone spray half my old bike when stopped at petrol station. It did make it shine nicely, but the prices are stupid.
