Let's play another round of diagnose my bike problems on the internet!

Yesterday when starting up my bike to leave work, I was greeted with a single 'click' and nothing thereafter. Phoned my wife, who came around with the car and I jumped the bike and drove it home. Left it idling at home for about an hour. Switched off the bike, switched it back on and got the same single click and nothing thereafter. Headlight, horn and turn signals all worked though.

Battery is less than a year old. I'm guessing it's the starter relay or solenoid or perhaps a dud battery? Am I barking up the wrong tree or is this a good place to start my investigation?

Willing to bet it’s the battery.

Age of battery is very rarely if ever a good criteria for diagnosis.

It could have been on the shelf for years when you bought it.

If it’s a good brand it should be under warranty still though.

Appreciate the help folks. Hopefully the place I bought it from keep decent records of their sales. The owner is a nice guy, I'm hoping he'll be willing to help me out on this.

So my F800 is in for a service today. It unfortunately seems that they have now standardized on the F700GS as the loan bike. It is unfortunately a bike I don't like and BMW going back to the left hand indicator control frustrates me to no end.

Yeah I’m also not a fan and just don’t get who that bike is for.

But I love the standard indicators thank you very much.

There is a marking on the battery itself.

Never needed a slip for battery claim.

But if it was already old stock when you bought it might not be so lucky.

what make battery is it? some only have 6 months warranty

I would pop a multimeter on the battery and try to start monitoring the voltage drop. i've had successful starts in my car with it dropping as low as 9volts when cranking.

On this specific model I need to remove my hand from the clutch to cycle indicators, it also feels like more work to me.

No idea, I'll need to check when I'm back at home.

Multimeter is with my father-in-law. Will likely only have access to it in the new year. Best bet right now would be to take it into the place I purchased it from and have them test it.

suckfakes.

Just emailed BikerBravado about doing my test...

"We are closing between 21st and and 3rd. Randburg is permanently closed because their equipment is faulty. Bike rental for your Test is now a big problem. We are using Xavier, but Malcolm has to ride the bike there and back which is taking 3hrs and making the cost prohibitive."

blegh.

Yeah it’s why I hate the bloody GPS wheel as it adds unnecessary distance.

It does have self-cancelling though if you leave it long enough.

300m and 10 seconds is the default if I remember correctly.

Bike is just over 1 year old. Just over 7000km. 1 Year Service done.

Still loving it.

Amazing how since riding a BMW the cops don’t give me ****. Was doing like 135 in the bus lane this morning and a Ghost Squad car moved over to make way for me.

They don't really hassle bikes in Jozi (unless you are riding like a real toss). Even the cops on motorcycles are chilled

True, they're always standing there at the on-ramp to the n1 at Rivonia, never been pulled off on the bike. other evening i went up the road enthusiastically, realized i wanted to get on the highway, make a u-turn and took the ramp in low gear with high rpm, he just looked at me as i rode passed. as long as you're not a chop they don't bother you, heck I've seen countless oaks with no number plates passing cops even at roadblocks without being pulled.

Ugh, you have to retake your eyetest to book your learner's license. Why a valid drivers license doesn't suffice, I just don't know. The queue was out the door

Where? You need to check regularly which testing centers have queues. It can change daily.

PS, got my Drivers on 2 December, the day my learners expired :D
Super proud of myself! Did the test in Somerset wes as they had a booking on that day.
