Good luck finding the warranty papers 4 years later, I bought a helmet in December and I don't know where my papers are.

I must vent my frustration of frozen finger tips on the cold mornings.
I had summer gloves which were great in summer. When winter creeped in I tried lycra gloves under my summer gloves which did not work well, since my summer gloves had vent holes for cooling.
Very angry due to frozen fingers tips, last week I went to get some proper winter gloves, I said no to the R500 gloves and no to the R600 gloves and went for the R800 gloves assuming the warmth offered increased with price, after the first few days my fingers still froze, I then tried the lycra gloves under the winter gloves, it was OK when leaving home after 8am but leaving at 6:30am my finger tips still freeze.!
So either I'm expecting too much and winter gloves are not supposed to keep out the cold and just make it more bearable or I just got a bad deal and bought the worst possible winter gloves....

I'm surely not the only one that hits that point in a rainy wintery ride where I actually enjoy myself?
Sure getting out there when it's already pissing down is never fun but assuming you have decent winter boots, decent winter gloves and other gear and your rain suit and you should be pretty dry and warm all round.
Once again this morning just as I hit highway speed with little to no cars about and maybe 100m of visibility, the rain just hitting the helmet hard enough to be made known instead of sounding like gunshots and just enough of it to streak out of your view without obstruction I found myself almost too warm and genuinely comfortable inside the crazy elements and thought to myself all of a sudden as crazy as it seems this is actually fun right now. You know it's almost like the extreme of scuba diving where once you are in the ocean and over the cold and your body has acclimatized and your breathing has settled you can suddenly take in the world in it's most visceral form.
As I was going I was just thinking to myself all these cars around me are missing all of this with their heated seats and climate control, most of them are probably still miserable about being there in the first place.
I'll be honest though I did hit the suicide line this morning for the first time in a long time due to the cluster **** that was an accident on the N2. More for reasons of safety as my hands and body were being fatigued by then and the cars were all over the place and also in a respectable fashion at 35km/h and just chugging along happily.
Of course after the accident section cleared I stupidly gave it some beans with visibility down to nothing and the rain moering down and hit one of the painted B U S lane markers I didn't see and went into a monstrous two wheel slide that even the electronics didn't see coming as no lights came on but it was just enough of a reminder of where I am and the dangers to myself.
I would happily do it again tomorrow.

It's the problem with buying no name brand options through cost cutting. Not to mention those look like summer gloves to me...
No point paying more if it's still a no name brand unfortunately. Also even the brand name ones their cheap gloves aren't in the same league.
Winter gloves are quite thick and normally have an outer waterproof lining and then an inner comfort lining for the heat.
My RST's keep me perfectly dry and warm but they did cost about R1200 back then and no idea what they cost now.
Return them if you aren't happy.

Any recommendations for some winter gear for daily commuting? I'm looking to get some gloves and boots. I'm in JHB. Don't want to break the bank either but willing to spend for decent mid-level gear.

Maybe just do a google search, I see some websites review the stuff, just add the word motorcycle to your search so you don't get articles for satans children know as bicycle riders.

Unfortunately breaking the bank is a relative term here and paying the good money gets you the good kit.
There is of course a case for diminishing returns.
I have the BMW Dry Sneakers that have been awesome all rounders for winter to my own astonishment and actually weren't expensive. However they are "short" boots and so my pants can often be the failure.
That being said I've never gotten soaked riding with them only noticed a bit of damp socks that aren't even enough to change them.
RST Titanium Waterproof gloves have served me very well for 4+ years now.

I actually like it thicker and makes it much more comfortable.
Which is why I have the Grip Puppies on my bike as the stock BMW grips are way too thin.
It does however mean in winter my reach for the clutch is just a little bit further than I would like due to the extra thickness from the winter gloves and them also being less flexible.

I am usually on the road just before 6:30am (Brakfontein-Sandton). Have a normal riding gloves with lycra inners (no heated grips of grip guards). Usually the temperature drops are in the dips by Olifants and Allandale, but my fingers do not get cold. I know the temp drops coz I can feel it on my legs

You must have very good normal gloves. I also feel the cold in the dips but in my fingers, I only use back roads (midrand-Rivonia) and despise the faster parts of the journey coz thats when the cold gets through.

Are these fit for use on a bike? Is it what you use?
I think I'd be more comfortable using something intended for use on a bike.

I dig them out on cold mornings, usually on the bike at about 05h30. And find that they work well in winter. They might not be bike gloves but they work.

Anything would be fit for use....very little is fit for crashing.
Same reason offroad gloves don't work well when they meet tar.
Since they are designed for snow though I'm sure they would address the temperature concern.
