Have any of you had serious encounters with flying rubbish?

I always dodged flying bags, so never took it seriously. On my last commute, I felt safer not swerving... so a bag flew into my front wheel. I thought it would do nothing, but it actually caused quite a strong loss in power - probably front brakes binding? Once acceleration was back to normal - my front brake was completely gone for a while - guessing some kind of adjustment had to kick in after a pulling the lever a few times.

No but bumblebees on the other hand...

Nice spirit adventure jacket :) I have the same.

Assuming it's you in your profile pic.
Thanks!

I originally wanted the black one with red highlights but the salesman convinced me this was better for visibility/safety sake. I've grown to it. I like it because it has so many ways of wearing, with/without liners, so many flaps to open and close to keep cool/warm. Plus the waterproof pockets are big. But the best "feature" are the buckles on the side for tightening the fit, I actually just hook my gate remote to it so I can open and close the gate without fishing into a pocket . Hehe

I also have a helmet and bluetooth kit from Spirit, good value for money brand imo.

Do you know where I can get the OEM ones?

Usually the dealership.

I used to have a UK website for buying Triumph bits but can’t seem to track it down now, probably nuked it when I sold the bike.

Won’t be cheap but they are quality.

Eina! Any got in to your helmet?

(I thought I was the only one who's had these weird experiences. :X3: )
I've had ants walk in my helmet and ears while I ride. It's really annoying when they go in your ears.

Rule number one of **** they never tell you shoot riding motorcycles...nature will try to kill you.

Personally I’ve been stung by bees, narrowly dodged between two cows at 80 km/h, been targeted against the head by countless kamikaze doves and then had a million torre hit me square in the visor so you can’t see anything at all.

But worst/craziest of all is having lighting strike so close to me that I was blinded for a few seconds while doing 120km/h on the highway.

A mate hit what was seemingly an eagle or hawk on a super bike and it went right through the front fairings.

I had a hawk come down on me, once. Almost seemed like it wanted to land on my shoulder or something.
Then another time, a Huntsman spider came down, from behind my mirror. Walked down onto my hand. Nearly **** myself.

Good reminder to wear gloves. :D

Had a dove swoop in on the freeway and somehow catch itself in my CBR's front radiator. That was... messy, but less so than I'd have expected. Also caught a bumblebee hard enough in the shoulder that it drew blood through my t-shirt. (before adopting ATGATT) Little fsckers look like drag queens but are built like Ivan Drago.

More common are cigarette butts. Had one ping off my helmet, another one left a tiny scorch in the 3M on the front of a gixxer that I hated owning anyway. Not yet had the pleasure of one bouncing off my jacket and landing between my crotch and the tank, as I discovered had happened with one of those big yellow and brown bugs once.

Memorial ride to honour murdered biker Zelda van Niekerk

Riders from across the Western Cape will be coming together on Saturday, October 6, to honour the life of well-known biker Zelda van Niekerk, who was senselessly murdered on September 28.

Van Niekerk was attacked by three robbers while waiting for another biker on the N1 highway under the N7 bridge.

She will be remembered as the driving force behind Bikers with a Cause and for her involvement in numerous charitable causes.

Bikers and other supporters (any road legal vehicle is allowed) will gather at the Pick n’ Pay Hypermarket in Brackenfell from 8:30 am on Saturday, with the ride kicking off at 9:30, escorted by the traffic department, and following the R300, N2, M5, N1, N7, Koeberg Road and Potsdam Road to Killarney.

The memorial service will then commence at 11am, at the Killarney clubhouse.

Organisers are also seeking to raise funds for Van Niekerk’s six-year-old son.

That happened just a few KM away from me ****ing hectic.

I thank you for taking all that for the rest of us, LOL I think the most I have had is a few bugs on the visor.

Congrats!!

Nice step up and here's to many a safe KM ahead!
Thank you mate!

Holy shitballs

We are all pussies with zero defensive driving skills.
I'm sitting in a shuttle in rush hour Mumbai traffic. There are 5 lanes of traffic. No painted lines on the road which is wide enough for 3 cars abreast. It's utter chaos. No one hits anyone else.
And to top it there is a constant stream of motorcycles somehow threading its way through the mess. No one's dead yet. I don't know how

One guy just rode past with his wife on the back, one kid sandwiched between them and a kid of no more than 4 sitting on the fuel tank. One helmet between them. **** me.

Haha yes except multiply the traffic density by 10

Had the same experience in Sri Lanka.

Saw one accident in over 7 weeks I’ve been there total and it was hardly a drama.
