I have decided to budget R1500 for a proper pair of winter gloves. Since I already wasted money on two pairs that are useless I'd rather go for something tried and tested. Your review on the RST brand is promising and I figure even if I can't find the exact model I'm sure a similarly priced model of winter glove should do the job.

There in lies the problem, I can't find RST gloves in jhb. An online search shows two physical shops in CT and the rest are online. Gloves need to be tried on before buying so I won't go the online route. I tried motomate and bikers warehouse.

Does anyone know where I can find the rst brand in jhb?
Alternatively if anyone else in jhb faces the 6:30 morning chill and your gloves get the job done, please share the brand and where you bought them.

We used to gush over Full Throttle down here in the Cape and how lucky you guys were to have them.

But since they gone down it seems you guys might be worse off.

Might be worth contacting the local distributor in Cape Town to ask.

I was deeply irritated for having left my rain suit at home yesterday. Fortunately my kit is all waterproof but it stays wet after the fact which is the problem.

Fortunately I’m on late shift so hopefully it’s dry by the time I need to leave.

Good grief. I didn't realise the weather was THAT bad.. Glad you made it out safely!

Mate, neither did I.

Been sick a few days and looked at Waze and leaving early (17:30) seemed quite reasonable to make it home by 18:10ish.

I only got there like 18:30 which still wasn’t too bad but little did I expect the chaos and bloody rivers of water.

This came in from a mate on the way home.

What I went through was deeper, but shorter at least.

A 50% delay on a bike is massiveTM. Hope you don't get sick again :)

Cape Town is in drought they say, there is no water they say

OH! I just remembered about the TL1000SS you should have a look at that.

IF you are in the market for a new bike, that will be as close as you can get to an SV, they are a bit more aggressive though.

I believe the SV uses a detuned TL motor to start off with, for better low-end grunt and less power at the high end of the rev band? Also didn't the TL have a strange rear shock design that would cause hassles for some folk? I'm not discounting your opinion, it's just some vague things I do remember from the TL :)

Hahaha, after making your point though, I totally get where you were coming from. Nice list of boney's that you've ridden though, I must say! I used to work for Kawasaki and Triumph so have ridden my fair share of bikes in my time. I've owned quite a few Honda's in my time and a few Suzuki's. Funnily enough, I've never owned a Yamaha. No particular reason why, I just haven't, lol.

I've always loved my Honda's.... There's just something about them that gel'd with me. My first (road) bike was the good old Honda LS125R. That thing was stupidly fast for a 125! It only weighed something like 99kg, dry weight, with a racing 2stroke motor and suspension. It was the only 125 I knew of that gave the Aprillia and Cagiva 125's a run for their money and it cost about a 3rd of what the Aprillia did back then.

EDIT: I'm so sorry if we are derailing the thread here :X3: My bad...

Thanks! How long ago did you work for Kawasaki/Triumph? Did you ever get to take a 1400GTR for a test drive? And what were your thoughts on the Speed Triple? Always loved the look of those bug eye headlights.

I really enjoyed my Yamaha, I still miss it from time to time. The KLR I replaced it with just didn't have the spark that I had with the Yammie. Also, the XT was light enough to power wheelie in 2nd gear even though it only had 30-odd HP :D

Seems you have a soft spot for the Honda's, probably because you had one as your first road bike. I missed one in my list actually - the first bike I ever rode which was a Honda CT70, complete with 6V electrics and points! I learnt to ride on it when I was a lad, before moving to the KX125 (which scared the everliving hell out of me when it would hit the powerband. Later on after I sold it I heard that the ignition timing was out which made it a dog at anything below 5k rpm. Above that it would take off like a scalded dog).

I do remember the LS125's, but speaking of 2T machines - another two that I would add to my garage had I enough space would be a RD350 LC and an older FJ1200, even though the latter is quite a tank (and corners like one too).

Quoted these from inside the Motorcycle thread, I hope you two don't mind :)

Sjoe... It was a while back when I worked there. I think I left roughly 13yrs ago. I started there as a casual on weekends when I was 15, just to earn some extra cash and did that until I finished school. Soon after leaving school I left the bike shop to focus on my studies and look for intern positions related to what I was studying. I rode most of the bike's on the floor but was barred from riding anything over +-600cc as I was/am still a speed nutter and the guys knew that when I took a bike out, it would come back with no carbon in the pipes, if you get my drift ;) I was also young so out of principal they left the big cc bikes for the "big boys" at the shop :cautious:. I didn't mind though because I used to get to ride the Triumph Daytona 675's which were by far my favorite bike and still is. I used to demolish the 1000's through the passes on that Daytona. It really is a phenomenal piece of engineering!
I do remember the Speed Triple very well! It was essentially a street fighter version of the Daytona 675. Same chassis and engine except it was toned down a little and had a wider torque band but with less oomph than the Daytona. That Speed Triple is gorgeous! Lovely bike to ride as well! So was the Kawasaki Z750 and Z1000. Also naked, street fighter look and used to pop onto the back wheel oh so easily and comfortably!

I rode plenty of KLR's... They're not the most exciting bikes but dammit, they are reliable and they do the job! I had a soft spot for them.

Ahhhh... The KX125... What nostalgia! You had me in stitches about it taking off like a scolded dog ! I know EXACTLY what you're talking about! Nothing... Nothing... and then a WHOLE LOT of something! I saw my arse a few times on 2strokes! I had the KX80 (before they bored them up to a 85cc) and then got a KDX200 after that. That KDX200 of mine was also easily one of the best bike's I've owned. I'd buy one again in a flash!

Ah man, the RD350! Now that's a bike I still want to own one day! My father was in hospital for 8 months because of an RD back in the day, actually. He still has pics of his 1st bike that he got at 16. An old Honda MB50... He used to mod the eish out of that thing. He's shared loads of stories with me about it.

Word of warning to anyone looking for anti-fog spray, I bought the “PJ1 fog blocker” and it only lasts about a day, very annoying.

I used to use a product called C-Thru. You rub some on the visor and it disperses water and fogging up pretty well. It's also quite cheap.

Apparently a potato works just as well ;)
Besides, can you eat C-Thru when the hunger pangs strike?

I've now tried this stuff twice; most recently last night. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but it just doesn't work for me. If anything, my visor ends up horribly obscured, making it bludy dangerous.

Pinlock ftw.

Also, with C-Thru, make sure to buff off as much as possible. I've noticed bad streaking when the sun comes out again.

I've been commuting on the orange animal, but I'm about to take a job in Stellenbosch. Rather than give up my happy space in the south, I've decided to tackle the approximately 28k km's worth of commuting mileage per year, on a dedicated tool; this '07 BMW F800S.

She should prove considerably cheaper to run than the KTM 1290 SDR; which shall be kept as the weekend hooligan toy.

Excellent condition, belt drive, custom front suspension by Martin Paetzold, a touring screen and a Leo Vince can, with 45k on the clock, for a good price. Should prove to be a suitable, frugal commuter for the next year, or two.

Day 1 on the Beemer and I'm already missing my SDR though. Haha! Roll on the weekend!

That's odd, I've never experienced that. Are you applying it properly?

As per the instructions? After cleaning and drying the visor, I apply C-Thru with a soft cloth, leave it to dry for 3-5 minutes, buff it, and repeat.

Don't leave it to dry that long.

Put it on, then buff it off with other side of cloth after say 30 seconds.

Then put it on again for a full coverage and buff off again.

ONLY ON THE OUTSIDE.

And obviously make sure your visor it properly clean before you start. Do you have a Pinlock in that HJC? Can't see quite clearly on the picture.
