I am in shock at the treatment I received yesterday (10 November 2009) at a Nashua Mobile branch, namely The Glen, between the store “Owner” and myself. I am still currently waiting on replies from the company.

After struggling to resolve a problem with my account via the call center on two separate occasions, I decided try going to the nearest Nashua store namely The Glen to see if they would be able to help me sort out the now overdue account and have it re-activated.

One of the store employees’s told me that they could not assist me as the systems were down, but as I need my phone for business I further inquired if there was anything else that could be done. According to the store owner the best thing that could be done for me, was to wait 30 minutes while he finishes his stock take, and then only can he give a payment reference which I could give to the call center to re-activated my account. This to me was unacceptable as the whole reason for visiting the store was to avoid the call centre which has failed to assist me before. So I turned away and in my moment of everything I commented to another customer in the store, "Do not come to Nashua mobile service as it is disgusting".

Then owner of the store then grabbed me by the arm and forcibly dragged me out of the store and threw me against a wall, where I was confronted face to face with the owner shouting directly in my face. Still holding me against my will, I kindly asked the owner to please “get out of my face and let me go”, but he continued to threaten me and suggest he would take me to an alley and “beat me up”. I again told him to please get out of my face, and he continued to hold me against the wall and to assault me. Thankfully a witness to the incident managed to distract the owner long enough for me to get away.

I personally believe that I should not support an organisation that employs intimidation (and mobster like) tactics, like that used but this particular store. I wonder how many customers have had to sign contracts under duress.

I have since contacted The Glen shopping center management and acquired that the owner is Francois Van der Merwe.
I currently have a MTN business contract, and a 1GB 3G contract with them, which I will cancelling as soon as possible.

Has any one else dealt with any one from this specific Nashua Mobile at the Glen?

Nashau's service was always the most pathetic in SA. Always problems with the accounts etc. Everybody stay away from that company. What they did to you, is deplorable. Your comment may have been out of place but that is no way to treat a paying customer.

Congrats for keeping your cool. I would have beaten the crap out of him.

Yeah was hard not to take a swing at him. We all have bad days, but you can't go around doing what you want to customers.
The comment was probably out of place, but we have all done it, especially with these service providers.

I have got 2 of the witness's names and number in case anything needs to be taken further, and I have just phoned the Glen management who have said they will look at the security footage and will get back to me in a day or 2.

He still had the indecency to try get me back into the store with him, when I walked past again to exit the shopping center.
I would just like to see something happen about this.

yeah i agree. notify Nashua HO that will be laying a charge of assault against them, and you will be sending the letter to a few newspapers. If they wanna allow idiots to have their shops, they must pay.

and then find a good lawyer, dont think its hard to get one.

PS - get your hands on a copy of the footage if any VERY quickly. and get signed witnesses with affidavits about it QUICKLY. this guy could have money, and unfortunately in this country (as in many) money can make things dissapear and people's minds change...

I would take this as far as possible.

We get USELESS service from these people and are expected to shut up about it, I also would have told everyone in his store about their disgusting service so that they too don't get caught in a contract with these people.

Its actually a good thing that he did touch you, gives you more leverage to PWN them.

Sorry about what happened to you Alien12...

My girlfriend works for Nashuamobile, I forwarded this thread to her and she just passed it on to the company's general manager.

Service in SA is often very bad but this is definitely the worst I've heard of. You should definitely sue that @sshole and take him to the cleaners. Then he will be broke and lose his store. And maybe someone competent will take over.

Hi All,
I am a General Manager at Nashua Mobile.
Alien12, we are sorry to hear about your experience - that is certainly not the way we condone any of our customers being treated. We take any allegation or report of this nature very seriously.
We have initiated an investigation into this matter, and will explore your allegations fully.
Should our findings reveal that an assault did take place, or that our franchisee was acting unprofessionally, we will take all of the appropriate actions necessary.
One of my colleagues will also be calling you to discuss this matter and get a full account of what happened.

go straight to your local police station and lay a charge - DO NOT WAIT. Ask the sup on duty what the correct charge is according to the facts.
Don't email but call your local community news paper and the regional newspapers. Some young reporter/s will get their teeth into the story and get it printed.

Thank you for the reply TimWalter, I have received a phone call from one of your colleagues and have assisted him with all the relevant information he has requested and anything that may speed up the investigation.

With regards to why my account was overdue Slootvreter, I changed bank accounts and needed to change all my debit orders, I filled in the forms at one of the branches who told me that it was processed and would come off the new account, I even phoned the call center to confirm this. I also emailed and spoke to 3 separate people after they told me the account was wrong and asked them to change it again. Now my cellphone has been suspended, hence why I was trying to pay the account to have access to my phone again.

yoh! thats insane .... lay a charge of assault and then got to Nashua HQ and lay a complaint there ... where ever you can just spread the news ...

Thanks Yarik11 much appreciated on forwarding the information on. I did get a call from the MD of Nashua Mobile. Thanks for the help everyone, I will be going to the poilce station as soon as I have all the information and details in order to lay the correct charge and then from there I can take this further.
Thanks

I concur. Good to see that they have responded on here already - shows they are concerned. As well they might be.

I'm not saying what happened it right, far from it. But funny how people don't pay their accounts on time, and when they want to go and settle it in the store because their service has been suspended, it has to happen IMMEDIATELY, otherwise it's bad service.
