Nashua Mobile = Physical Assault

Far from it Slootvreter, I started the whole process with changing my bank accounts in August, I have a copy of the form I filled in at a Nashua Mobile form the last week in August, so this hasn't been done correctly for almost 3 months now, and according to the lady I spoke to yesterday is still somehow not been changed to my new accounts. So lets try it for the 5th time.

I've heard of people having issues with NM long ago, that's why when they called me to offer me some random special, I told them to go away and never call me again.

yip, i signed up with them about 6 years ago...regretted every minute and got out as soon as I could. I think I even gave them around 16 months notice that I was canceling my contract.

I am in shock at the treatment I received yesterday (10 November 2009) at a Nashua Mobile branch, namely The Glen, between the store “Owner” and myself. I am still currently waiting on replies from the company.

After struggling to resolve a problem with my account via the call center on two separate occasions, I decided try going to the nearest Nashua store namely The Glen to see if they would be able to help me sort out the now overdue account and have it re-activated.

One of the store employees’s told me that they could not assist me as the systems were down, but as I need my phone for business I further inquired if there was anything else that could be done. According to the store owner the best thing that could be done for me, was to wait 30 minutes while he finishes his stock take, and then only can he give a payment reference which I could give to the call center to re-activated my account. This to me was unacceptable as the whole reason for visiting the store was to avoid the call centre which has failed to assist me before. So I turned away and in my moment of everything I commented to another customer in the store, "Do not come to Nashua mobile service as it is disgusting".

Then owner of the store then grabbed me by the arm and forcibly dragged me out of the store and threw me against a wall, where I was confronted face to face with the owner shouting directly in my face. Still holding me against my will, I kindly asked the owner to please “get out of my face and let me go”, but he continued to threaten me and suggest he would take me to an alley and “beat me up”. I again told him to please get out of my face, and he continued to hold me against the wall and to assault me. Thankfully a witness to the incident managed to distract the owner long enough for me to get away.

I personally believe that I should not support an organisation that employs intimidation (and mobster like) tactics, like that used but this particular store. I wonder how many customers have had to sign contracts under duress.

I have since contacted The Glen shopping center management and acquired that the owner is Francois Van der Merwe.
I currently have a MTN business contract, and a 1GB 3G contract with them, which I will cancelling as soon as possible.

Has any one else dealt with any one from this specific Nashua Mobile at the Glen?
I got an SMS telling me I am elegible for an upgrade and although I don't deal with this branch or individual, I am going to closely watch the outcome of this case - I am going to email this thread to the sales person and let them know my staying with Nashua Mobile or leaving will depend on how this matter is dealt with. Do you know his name so I can follow up whether he is still a store owner? You can PM me. Thanks!

Nashau's service was always the most pathetic in SA. Always problems with the accounts etc. Everybody stay away from that company. What they did to you, is deplorable. Your comment may have been out of place but that is no way to treat a paying customer.

Congrats for keeping your cool. I would have beaten the crap out of him.

His comment was not out of place - I think it was warranted and it's called free speech - expressing his opinion to another client is perfectly fine in a democratic society. I have done the same myself.

i agree, if he did not find his experience satisfactory, he is more than allowed to voice his opinion to potential customers, or who ever he wants...

and the store owner telling him 'to wait 30mins, while he takes stock' is ridiculous ....

this is the problem with *some* franchise stores (I assume by the term 'owner', that these stores are franchised out) - unless you signed up at *his* store, he doesn't even consider you as a client.
I experienced that when I was with CellC a few years back. The owner at one CellC franchise store refused to assist in my account query, telling me to go back to the franchise store I signed up at. Not acceptable.

Sadly this is the way it goes in franchise stores and many other areas of business these days. They treat you as they want to and expect you to stand for it and then they want to offer you a freebie if you are one of the few people to complain

It is our right to complain if we aren't treated with decency, but I guess when it comes to money people get really nasty

Hi All,
I am a General Manager at Nashua Mobile.
Alien12, we are sorry to hear about your experience - that is certainly not the way we condone any of our customers being treated. We take any allegation or report of this nature very seriously.
We have initiated an investigation into this matter, and will explore your allegations fully.
Should our findings reveal that an assault did take place, or that our franchisee was acting unprofessionally, we will take all of the appropriate actions necessary.
One of my colleagues will also be calling you to discuss this matter and get a full account of what happened.
Kudos Tim for taking this on. Hopefully there will be a follow-up in this thread. I'm waiting to hear and my future business depends on it.

I've also got a Nashua Mobile coming up for upgrade very soon. Watching this thread very carefully.
I've always had good service from the Elarduspark store. But if NM does not take the necessary measures regarding this case, there is no reason for me to keep doing business with them. They will just take same stance when I have a problem.
Although we must not jump to conclusions here. Innocent until proven guilty.

/just post the video here. We will be the Judge, Jury and executioner :p

For me, this has nothing to do with potential treatment in future, it's a principle issue. Is the company prepared to shoulder the blame for it's franchisee's behaviour and is it prepared to do something about it... or is it like so many others that will say he acted on his own accord... or even keep him on as a franchise owner / manager. Of course if he is innocent, I would expect NM to post video footage. I don't expect them to if he is guilty lol.

I should have added that I'm not referring to you specifically, but I've got friends like that. Don't pay their accounts for two months, and when they finally decide to pay, things must happen immediately for them. Anyhow, if events transpired exactly as you said, it's unacceptable. But then again, I find it childish to start talking to other customers in the store about the service you're getting.

Okay so I came in late to this thread but I have to agree with all that suggested laying a charge.

Secondly NM are the worst service provider (sic) out there with scant regard to their customers and their rights. They feel free to change terms of the contract to their favour at will, plus numerous other issues I have had with them. Rotten to the core, I tell ya.

Sheesh I could rant on for ages, but to say their service has been on a downhill slide for some time now. I can't wait to get out just as soon as my time is up.

I know what you are saying kayvee - I ditched them once before with many complaints but let myself be suckered into a deal that only they offered - mainly for the handset. Although I haven't had trouble this time around, I am itching to leave again - that first dealing has left a bad taste in my mouth and I still feel bad when I think of being in another two year contract with them...

Not only that, but if, for example you are with cellular bar, cell shack, whatever, you can upgrade at any vodacom shop, however, if you are signed with NM or autopage you can only upgrade at autopage or NM, and if you try to migrate away from them, they take forever to process request as it expires within 3 days. Not exactly freedom of choice...

I do this as a matter of principle. The more companies realise that we will pass on experiences - even in store - the more they have the incentive to improve. There is absolutely no reason or justification for reacting violently in response. He should have dialled 10111 immediately and had the manager arrested. Alternatively I would have arrested him myself or called security to help.

Just to give you an update. I had to contact the MD of Nashua Mobile today to find out if anything is happening as I had not heard anything by 14:00. Which he later replied he is still waiting on the video surveillance.
I have phoned the Glen management again to try push this matter and was told I would be phoned back and still nothing (that was at 14:30), I have tried to phone again but it is busy. I once again will push this tomorrow and go through to the Glen to try get the video surveillance and will be going to the police station with hopefully this proof.
I will try and get the witness to come down as well to further enhance the case.

Hopefully I will be hearing from Nashua Mobile tomorrow again. I will keep this thread open to keep everyone posted on how this matter gets resolved.

Thanks Alien 12 - this says it all - if they can't even get their act together and get internal video footage then they are either incompetent (I suspect strongly based on previous Nashua Mobile experience) or they are indifferent (another feasable explanation).

So here it is Nashua Mobile - I AM NOT RENEWING MY CONTRACT THIS TIME AROUND. I will send mail to the sales guy who I spoke to earlier with a link to this thread as the reason for my not renewing my contract.
