Neotel explains NeoFlex pricing

The response is utter bull. Why don't they just sell the devices without a contract and make the data available as prepaid? The main different between the two packages should be the devices. The cost per gig should be the same.

While I am ready to find a better connectivity option, NeoTel's options do not win me over.

I am quite happy with my current 3G option, and have been stalling on getting ADSL while waiting for NeoTel. It looks like I will be looking at Hellkom's ADSL options again. Or just stick with what I have.

What I am ultimately looking for is a fast, uncapped connection that doesn't cost the earth. Although, I am willing to pay a reasonable amount for it.

But, don't know if that will ever happen here.

Neotel you guys have no clue about that market wants. How at R999 can you offer uncapped access with voice but for R899 you offer 15gig?

There are, MOST users on the data only service would be interested in uncapped.. How about offering that?

Here we all were waiting for a decent alternative to Helkom and we've been sadly let down again.

I have to admit that I am unimpressed with the offerings from Neotel. I was also waiting to see what would happen with the NeoFlex package, but now I'm definitely staying with Telkom. This is just pathetic.

So how much would the NeoFlex contract be per month if one buys the device upfront

ZAR100.00 per month less I assume, but what sane person would be willing to pay ZAR2400.00 for a CDMA2000 Rev A brick that cannot be used with any other ISP in SA and effectively has no resale value? - we have been down this road with Sentech's IPWireless and WBS' iBurst - the latter somewhat more resalable than the former, but still somewhat useless.

Does this imply that NeoConnect is shaped?

Perhaps the Neotel rep would like to answer that question - I also got the same impression and want to know the answer.

I don't understand something, this is a unshaped package.

My Telkom ADSL line costs;

Line Rental: R119
ADSL 4Mb/s Rental: R384
10 GB Unshaped Data from Imaginet: R1254
Telkom Total cost: R R1757

Neotel's offering is R 699 all inclusive.

Sure the latency won't be as good as the ADSL but hell it is surely a much better deal than going with Telkom?

The thing about unshaped bandwidth, is that that is how the bandwidth starts off - unaltered, now what Telkodemonopolies does is takes the raw unshaped bandwidth and shapes it [arguably to death] and then charges more for unshaped than shaped. Unshaped should always cost less than shaped bandwidth, but Telkodemonopolies has abused its monopoly and spread its propaganda that unshaped should cost more than shaped.

I got news for you, Mr Modise, they are being directly compared. And they don't add up.

So how about an honest explanation.

For the benefit of those who do not know, Albi Modise is Poison Ivy's & Stalin-Mafole's former spin doctor, which also explains the totally brain-dead 'explanation' for the price differences between NeoConnect and NeoFlex Data.

Its rather interesting in the way things have gone with neotel ...

In reading articles, and peoples responses, plus the uptake of there product offering, ive come to the following conclusion that neotel should take to heart and do something about:

The people of South Africa have been exposed to enough information about 1st world internet pricing and will not stand for a 3rd world product offering.

With so many people who have family & friends overseas, who laugh at the ridiculous pricing of bandwidth, and with the imminent arrival of undersea cables, firstly, signing a 24 month contract in these volatile times is so irresponsible that the person who does (insert whatever you feel here) for doing so.


The people of South Africa are waiting for Proper 1st world internet at 1st world pricing, R100-200 for 1mb unmetered as a start, 4mb unmetered for 300-400, thats realistic first world pricing, even in dollar pound amounts, so please dont push pathetic excuse for products onto our plate, and get your internet knowledge up to date, data is data as mentioned, regardless of how many people use one connection ...
