Neotel explains NeoFlex pricing

I am not really big on contract, so I am gonna stay away from them. So much for the hype.. nastiness period!

However... this was soon to be interrupted. Yesterday morning my office had good to fair coverage and was completely surrounded by coverage. By yesterday afternoon when I reapplied we had no coverage and there was only coverage a couple of hundred meters away to the Southwest.

We have now decided against using Neotel as we are unable to rely on them any of their services.

They must have towers with legs who move arround the country same happened to me. So how reliable are they. One day coverage next day gone

In Protest

In Protest, me adds www.neotel.co.za on my smoothwall URL drop list.

As a second Protest me adds the following entry

127.0.0.1 www.neotel.co.za

to my PC's HOSTS file.

Will Consider removing entries when Seacom has stabilished, and Neotel has come down from Cloud Cuckoo Land.

Neotel... such a BIG FAIL on this!

Me (the market) wanted Neotel Prime Unlimited device with ethernet not USB.
Simple.
That is all.
Not more packages and caps.

:(

Mod up!!

I have 384DSL, but the service is not stable due to the distance to the exchange. Neotel coverage is great in my area and its wireless so no more cable problems.
I have a PC, 2 laptops and a Wii that need connectivity so I need an ethernet / wireless device. I DONT however need 10GB of transfer!!!

Let me buy the damn device and give me a package to suit my needs. Its really not rocket science!

DATA is DATA

I don't get it, they say that the device is intended for multi-users but did they ever think that maybe I (a single user) just wants to connect multiple devices??

To think I actually was excited about NeoTel...another disgusting ploy at exploiting the public.

True, not only that, 3mbit/s isn't something the average joe or familyw ould be fussed about, many houses want something that can be shared between a few ppl that's good enough for homework, email, banking etc; They should seriously consider lower speed/lower pricing options for small users.
Sorry but I simply cannot agree with "lower speed" - a network operator should always endeavour to provide a network with the best possible speed [i.e. upgrade the network whenever possible] in order to remain competitive and to keep its customers happy - sure there are some people that don't mind waiting for days for something to download or upload, but there are IMO many more people that want to get something done quickly and not have to monitor it for days on end.

Furthermore, a network operator should allow its customers to use a wide range of [!CASA approved] modems and routers - as is the case with ADSL - there are loads of options and one doesn't have to buy from Telkodemonopolies - there are online and offline PC shops that sell ADSL modems & routers at reasonable prices [if one takes the time to shop around for the best price]. This is quite simply why NeoGhost's NeoFlex Data router costs ZAR2400.00 when bought from NeoGhost - if other routers were available locally [again !CASA approved] then the pricetag would be far lower due to competition - which NeoGhost does not have when it comes to CDMA2000 - NeoGhost has a monopoly on the network and as far as the devices are concerned.
that's probably why they want contracts
Probably, but as someone who has an excellent credit rating, and who refuses to touch lengthy contracts, NeoGhost can continue to ignore my forum signature and then tell me that they [NeoGhost] listened to what I have been saying for months - which is that I refuse to sign any lengthy contract [defined as longer than month 2 month].
I don't get it, they say that the device is intended for multi-users but did they ever think that maybe I (a single user) just wants to connect multiple devices??
NeoGhost and its device are demented - have a look at the following:
While I'm not sure if that means 4 ethernet connected devices + 6 wifi connected devices, or if it means 4 ethernet connected devices + 10 wifi connected devices, it is still quite pathetic. If this router supports bridged mode, then it might still be relatively ok, otherwise it is a waste of money for ZAR2400.00.

I can't see why all of the people above me are so annoyed about Neotel, If they are so bad then leave them alone, i mean ffs the product has only been out for a few days, and it hasn't really had time to settle, so at least give it a chance. Btw if you want low latency internet with availability, then go with telkom, but I have lost count in how many time people have complained about telkom. If you want (fast) wireless with ok availability go with iburst, but endure the pathetic speeds. If you want high speed wireless, you could go with 3g/HSDPA, but you will have to endure with the high price.
I am going to support neotel as at least they offer a high speed, unshapped internet connection that is adequate for my situation(4 high volume internet users at home)

Irony. I'm currently experiencing some of the worst ADSL service in a while. One might consider it auspicious timing, what with coinciding with this 'save the world' NeoFlex launch, but I just can't bring myself to switch.

As for giving consumers what they want, oh my word. Get a new sample population.

Data only - check.
LAN-capable device - check (though why this should be a reason for a more expensive offering all by itself is beyond me)
Unshaped - check.
Reasonably priced - FAIL
Flexible - FAIL (What? No entry level option? No per-gig-billing option?)

3 out of 5 is almost there. Come on NeoTel. You CAN do better.

The question, and here's your answer:

but I have lost count in how many time people have complained about telkom.

We're fed-up. And NeoTel was supposed to come and save us. What you're reading up there is the frustration brought on my complete and utter powerlessness. There's nowhere to go. There's no 'power to the people'. There's no voting with your wallet and your custom.

The device price is definitely prohibitive. Even if they allowed a prepaid option, i.e. we buy the device upfront in cash and then just buy bandwidth with i.e. no "connectivity rental" as with ADSL, it would take at least a year to break even and start saving.

Oh and BTW, if their arguement is how fast you can download/upload, they should make the packages UNCAPPED instead of making you pay per GB.

Either I pay per GB and can download at 54mbps or 2mbps wherever my point terminates into, or make it uncapped and give me x kbps

Too true. Schooled directly from :
Telkom's guide on double charging customers. (Now updated with a chapter on charging line rental for line-less connections.)

Priviledge to have ability to download : R120
Ability to download @ decent speed: R430
Actual capacity to download something across able connection : R70/GB

The reason Neohell wants 24 month contracts is so that when the price of broadband does eventually drop they will be able to carry on charging their current rates which might seem low now but will be exhorbitant in 12 months time.

+1 to everyone. All ISP's seem to miss the pot when argueing their pricing

if I download 1GB data @ 94857239458638o493 kbps or if I download it @ 1kbps. Its still 1 GB of data I am allowed to use because I shelled out the R70+ for it (talking ADSL)

So 10 GB data on a voice combined phone being less expensive to the data only portion is ****ed up (yes, I swore)

Not all ISP's:)

Screamer allows you to select the connection speed on it's capped packages at no additional cost.
Only the uncapped packages have a connection speed implication.

What the public wants is something vaguely approaching the product offered overseas, vis a vis speed, cap and cost.

How Neotel achieves this is their problem, NOT the customer's.

What Neotel is offering comes nowhere close to achieving this goal. What Neotels offering, together with bad coverage and, from the sound of it, worse service achieves is to dissuade potential clients fom even considering their offerings.

I must say that I think it is remarkably brave of them to kill the market before even achieving a foothold.

NeoTelkom is weak in reasoning. why cant we just get uncapped unshaped service? will seacom be the answer?

I don't understand something, this is a unshaped package.

My Telkom ADSL line costs;

Line Rental: R119
ADSL 4Mb/s Rental: R384
10 GB Unshaped Data from Imaginet: R1254
Telkom Total cost: R R1757

Neotel's offering is R 699 all inclusive.

Sure the latency won't be as good as the ADSL but hell it is surely a much better deal than going with Telkom?

sorry but again i must disagree, first of all y quote telkom 4mbps prices? u're only getting (according to neotel) 450-900kbps speed, and with latency on wireless being high already unshaped doesn't really do so much for us anyways.

and remember with telkom u also must remove the line rental charge since with neoflex you don't have the phone option at all.

and the true problem is, why are the flex prices more expensive then prime? its ridiculous that they are still saying the same thing about the ethernet device and revA with "higher" speed, which we will never get anyways.
