Neotel explains NeoFlex pricing

I need a much bigger incentive to switch. Here is why

1) by retaining my current paid for adsl modem I maximise my investment in it.
2) By not paying R2400 for a new modem I can use it on line rental for the next 2 years.
3) after the above the data pricing is not a big enough attraction.

So all in all the offering from neotel just plain stinks. If you want people to switch you need to give them what they want at prices that cannot be beaten.

So close, yet so far. If the price had been about R200 less and they had opted not to drop the unlimited option, I am almost certain the response to Neoflex would have been vastly different. But when placed side by side with their Neoconnect offerings and not much difference in speed, can anyone really make sense of the pricing and data offerings?

It almost looks like yet another company trying to take advantage of bandwidth starved South Africans.

Neotel's offering is R 699 all inclusive.

Sure the latency won't be as good as the ADSL but hell it is surely a much better deal than going with Telkom?

On the surface it all looks good until you sign their 24 month contract and discover;
1. Their backhaul is so poor that your speed is 150kbps on a good day and,
2. Your capped broadband dissappears at an alarming rate with no reasonable explanation from Neohell except "sign for our uncapped packages"
3. Something goes wrong with your connection and you have to receive 5 fault tickets before you get an unintelligible response and
4. You have to disconnect from the internet to make a phone call and
5. You finally pay them for their device so you can get out of your contract

It is a sad day when we have to use Hellkom as a benchmark.

Exactly. "UNSHAPED" means diddly when you are in a "fair" coverage area, and you only get low speeds, at the best of times.

I manage to get 30-50K/s on my 1Meg DSL most of the time. On a SHAPED package.

Add to that, most of my data transfer is local (downloads inter-office), and having to pay R60/GB is not an option.


EDIT: It is also my understanding that most UNSHAPED ADSL users use UNSHAPED for GAMING. Not sure how that makes a difference when GAMING lag is going to be high on NEOTEL.

isnt the speed more closer to 512 and the problem is that they actually have a produckt that cheaper for same cap only dif is one is usb and other ethernet.
and the wireless lagg cancels out the unshaped

Ok i have a 384k line, but thats everything i need, with average of 40ms ping local and 200ms int.
So...
R199 for Telkom Line + R490.01 for 10GB...Roughly the same price...
How much faster do you need to download than 384k?
How big are your downloads that you cant wait a few minutes?

I think ADSL is still a way better option.

450kps to 900kps downlink and 300kps to 700kps on the reverse link. These are two largely different products that can not be directly compared

Right before everyone gets all antsy pantsy lets actually look at it properly.
The standard that they are using doesnt allow for anyone to go and pull a device out of incredible corruption or a similar retailer so get over it for now, there will be over the counter devices available in the future. They needed something to allow for last mile connectivity as they didnt have a wired infrastructure in place. Arguably they should have rather gone with 3G but they chose a technology that can be expanded for more speed than 3G in the end.

I will probably never use Neotel, its mainly becuase I am a gamer and the latency will not work for me.

what Neotel shoud really have done is made provision for your own ISP or if they werent going to do that then to add local bandwidth to the equation.
10GB of international bandwidth is great but its not for me entirely considering a large chunk of what I do is local and there are alot of people with similar feelings to this.

They will come out with a decent device soon enough that allows you to use it as an ethernet router becuase if they dont then they are retarded and dont listen to clients at all.

youmight find differences in price when seacom etc land but for now they are still using the same infrastruture for international data that telkom are so dont expect them to be HUGE amounts cheaper.
Their Neoflex should come in options from 1-20GB too so that lower end users can look at it aswel.

Neotel is a joke, unshaped on a wireless wow thats so amazing idiots. I'll stick to telkom least its fixed.

What really gets my goat . is that Neotel have had us waiting for this pricing for months, without a peep .. then all of a sudden .. bang - here it is and it has more features do its gonna be more expensive... couldnt they have said months ago, that the technology was going to be better and users shouldnt expect a price reduction from existing packages .. SURELY they knew that when they started developement ..

But we wait and wait .. and nothing .. then 2 months later we get "Oh .. we had it ready .. but we thought we'd better launch in Jan .. cause December is a cruddy launch date" --->>>>> bulldust ..

All this for information that could've been given to the public almost a year ago if its so "obvious" from a Neotel perspective that the product should be more expensive ...

Im so FRIKKEN tired of waiting .. do people really think that Telkom isnt also going to drop ADSL prices when those cables land .. and that Telkom isnt going to be a HUGE player in buying up cheap unused bandwidth from the new cables landing here .. probably getting bulk discounts .. and getting better prices than any other ISP can pray for .. and thereby offering a more than competitive pricing structure, which will blow NeoCrud out of the water once and for all .... then no more probs for Telkom .. and its back to the land of milk and honey for Telkom with only bruised competition and inflated internet costs.
