Neotel Info

I really hope that they let us subscribe online >.> Although, I think that may just be wishful thinking on my part... *stares at Neotel website* Take my money, damn you!

Well at the end of the day - I'll be sitting back here in CT to see how the "soft-launch" is accepted by the JHB/PTA crowd and in that month that it'll take for Neotel to get CT up and running, we would have hopefully had constructive info regarding their services.

Gauteng Guinea Pigs FTW!!! :D :D :p :p

SFW : You really need to research your statements a bit better...

VC, MTN, Cell-c do NOT use CDMA for anything, we use the system more widely used in Europe, namely GSM and its derivatives...

CDMA Neotel
WCDMA cellular networks

The same

He believes that Neotel’s service will not suffer the same constraints as that of the mobile networks’ 3G services, which suffer severe degradation as user numbers grow and usage levels peak in certain locations and at certain times of day.

Same technology cellular use WIDE code..

Bear in mind that CDMA has 400-million users globally, and is second only to GSM in technology usage. The chip sets are manufactured according to the 3G standard, and offer peak rates of 2.4Mbps

No, not entirely the same...

WCDMA as used in this country is more commonly known as UMTS...

Nowhere in that article does it state that they are the same technologies.
Them being manufactured to 3G standards does not mean that its 3G.
If I'm grasping it correctly...

ok i think you missed the part where i said in my post WCDMA cellular maybe i should of said in this country.

UMTS also known as 3G and HSDPA

Thats besides the points lets just be happy for us we finally have choice....

I think we will be stewing in our own jealousy while we watch the JHB/PTA guys being signed up. :D:D

Ohhh! If its all good and they're going on their merry way at full steam, I will be most envious :D
But ultimately insanely happy at the same time!
Results - thats all that counts from here on in! ;)

Yes 2.4Mbps is the theoretical limit for CDMA.
Though I seriously doubt the price that they gave you and I am sure that they will implement a hard capping policy.

I would really appreaciate it though if Neotel proved me wrong. ;)

Did anyone that called, listen to what they said?

Neotel Lady: Free uploading and downloading on the Internet.
Me: So it's uncapped?!!!11
Neotel Lady: No, but that will be available at a later stage at an extra cost.
Me: How can uploading and downloading be free, but its not uncapped?
Neotel Lady: There is a 1GB limit on the uploading and downloading
Me: ok, costs? ... ... ...

So, that R499, is just for the testing phase....what the current testers are paying. And it has a 1GB cap. You'll have to pay more for uncapped. But that will only be available later

Their words, just called them. e i s h

Must say though. They were friendly and I was helped very quickly. Had to wait about 20 seconds MAX before I was put through to an operator! :D

*pop goes the weasel*

So what we have here is a situation where Neotel's operators show the same lack of fcking disorder as Telscum!

Eish, lets just get this over with already!

EDIT: Oh and R499 for 1GB - they can go and fly a kite - will give them a call myself a bit later and see what they're on about...

Shake&Bake

Please call them ask for a manager to clarify....

TB

Its not about it been interesting that is daylight robbery...

Will wait for official announcement on Neotel website.

At the moment it is just a lot of contradictary hearsay.

At these kind of rates, only madmen would be interested.

I would consider if the rates are sufficiently competitive to take the trouble to change, and when there is a phone available which is ethernet enabled.

Any news on shaping /throttling /QOS?
Not to pound on my chest and scream captian obvious but keep in mind this is an imaginary product! It doesn't exist...... yet
Everything is a rumour and reminds me of all that Paris Hilton/Lindsey Lohan garbage

So thers no info on capping even less on shaping and what info ppl have reported contradict to what others report.
Its all just a figment of ur imagination and u'll wake up soon to the fresh smell of Telscumm in the morning! ;)

enjoy!

My Neotel call

Ok - spoke to Samantha at Neotel Consumer Services.
The call centre was a breeze to navigate and very helpful people.

Ok so everything that rph has mentioned thus far corresponds, except for the capping policy.
What I've been told is that for the initial stages of signing up they are guaranteeing uncapped. I asked twice or three times concerning it.

She did however mention that it was going to be in the interim and that they would implement a capping polciy at a later stage.I imagine they'd wanna get the feel for how their network will stand up to customers raping it :D
I'll be getting a call from her at 15h30 today, as she has promised to get me something concrete concerning the dates of implementation for their capping policy.

The R499 package is not on a contractual basis, but there are T&C's which they ask you to sign, likely something along the lines of a perod of time for cancellation.
