Neotel Info

Bellville office went live yesterday, but it still in a testing stage.

Maybe end May or beginning june you can log on to the site

Thank you very much :D Kevin phoned me back a few minutes ago and told me the same thing - he said that it's in a testing phase (or stage :p) and that he's put me on his lead database and will keep an eye on my area and contact me the moment it goes live.

He also mentioned that after signing up the phone/modem/etc will be delivered straight to our doors.

If I get any happier I'm going to burst. In a good way :D I can't wait. I haven't had a proper internet connection in 3 months. THREE MONTHS! That means no online gaming, no Ever Quest II, no YouTube, no frikkin' MySpace, no torrents and absolutely no Steam!!!! FOR THREE MONTHS!!!! I'm having serious frikkin' withdrawal symptoms here. Oh Neotel... Oh beautiful, sweet, succulent Neotel... COME TO ME!!!!! *drool*

OH FSCKING GREAT - SO PTA/JHB WILL RAPE THE NETWORK AND IT WILL BECOME A CAPPED SOLUTION BY THE TIME IT REACHES CPT - THANKS ALOT FSKERS :(

J

Ok - spoke to Samantha at Neotel Consumer Services.
The call centre was a breeze to navigate and very helpful people.

Ok so everything that rph has mentioned thus far corresponds, except for the capping policy.
What I've been told is that for the initial stages of signing up they are guaranteeing uncapped. I asked twice or three times concerning it.

She did however mention that it was going to be in the interim and that they would implement a capping polciy at a later stage.I imagine they'd wanna get the feel for how their network will stand up to customers raping it :D
I'll be getting a call from her at 15h30 today, as she has promised to get me something concrete concerning the dates of implementation for their capping policy.

The R499 package is not on a contractual basis, but there are T&C's which they ask you to sign, likely something along the lines of a perod of time for cancellation.

Why am I suddenly thinking iburst? There is a new orange evaloution on the way!

I am wondering if and how ISP's will be reselling Neotel products.

*hiss* If Neotel begin to even remotely resemble iBurst and their whacked out Telkomopoly philosophies I'll.... er... disown them? Well, be very disappointed at the very least... I really hope Neotel don't end up like the rest of the worthless providers in this country... I have faith in them though... I just hope it's not misplaced.

*shrug* I'm happier going the direct route, personally.

One thing I recall Kevin telling me today was that any pricing information is subject to change before release, so we'll have to wait and see how it pans out. R500 for 1GB is too much, so only time will tell if it's really 1GB or uncapped... Could be neither heh...

I'm hoping for the best.

It's not even launched yet hj2k_x, so 'lack of concrete info' is a given.

Yet when you phone them, they do give you certain details.

I just don't believe they will compete with Telkom on price, which is the most important thing. It would be great if they could, but for now I will believe it when I see it.

Not even in P.E...!? :(
uncapped! :D
Speeds? :(

ooookay!

after doing that maths: note ammounts aprox
uncapped 64k = R299 pm
Telkom phone line = R199 pm
Total: R489

Neotel = R499 - for uncapped net & phone :D

I hope that Neotel doesnt become another "Cell C / Virgin Mobile" company.

Yes yes, CDMA is a nice technology to have, and yes it will provide to informal settlements, and all sorts of people of our rainbow nation.

The BIGGER question is, would they be able to provide enough bandwidth, and more than enough to expand in a few years time?

Where is the Fibre? Where is the ADSL?

These two technologies drive the future in global perspective. Yet, Neotel insist that CDMA will 'change the future'...

Will CDMA be 'real-time' communication? For example, if i want to do a remote dekstop to a server which is located in cape town, and i sit in pta, would the delay be less than 30ms ? At the moment i can do this with telkom with no problems...

I surely hope that Neotel doesn't become like iBurst, where you must have signal quality, above 80% in order for the device to work. If the signal is bad, you cant surf, cant make phone calls, cant this, cant that...

With ADSL or Fibre its a physical connection, which can either brake or work, 0 or 1, on or off.

If Neotel doesnt pickup quickly enough, the higher market players will benefit from the Fiber/ADSL connections, like MTN and Vodacom, providing a supperior service to their clients, because they're also building their own infrastructure.

Hope for better things to come in the future...
Ciao

Yip.

The ONLY negative I can see is the lack of RJ45. How is this connection meant to be shared (easily, and seamlessly) :o

Look at getting an EVDO Wireless Router, their is your RJ45 ethernet
D-Link 3G Mobile Router Ev-do 4-Port Switch 802.11G 108MBPS
About $200 pricey from Amazon
