Neotel NeoConnect put to the test

So far alot of whining and moaning about a product that has not even been officially launched. Just be patient and wait for their services to be offered commercially before making any judgment calls.
 
I thought Neotel was supposed to be a FIXED LINE service provider.:confused: According to this they are wireless thus still not competing on a level playing field with Telkom. If the internet is slow now imagine how slow its gonna be when more users come on board. ping = 500ms+
 
Disappointing from what I read. If that info stays true I will probably stick with what I got and ignore Neotel. Hopefully things will be better though.

As for the USB phone and Internet, I'm sure you can just enable Internet sharing. Then your PC will act as the gateway, plug the ethernet cable from you NIC to the correct port in the router and everyone else should also have Internet as far as I can see. Only thing that worries me though is Bridging. We all use our own accounts so hopefully there will be some kind of pppoe dsl dial-up feature and bridging.
 
Not so nice Neotel

after sending Neotel an e-mail, calling them (had to try 3 times) and leaving a message, a consultant eventually got back to me last week.

Couldn't give me confirmed pricing on anything (handsets, line rental, etc) couldn't confirm release date, but could tell me that coverage in my area was ok.

So far no reason to switch from Telkom, who at least can answer my questions.

BTW. Got my ADSL line installed within 30 days by reminding all Telkom personell of ICASA regulations. :) IF you make enough noise Telkom can actually get things done.
 
To be honest I feel like bursting out and crying. I expected something affordable from Neotel, considering the fact that its only uncapped until the trial ends. What does it help? For R500 you can even get something decent from other subscribers, unless Neotel does something drastic I am sticking with Telkom and Axxess
 
I've sent e-mails requesting to be be apart of it.
Replies seem to be 'standard copy and paste' type replies.

Imagine this, they get allot of feedback from customers stating that the local response times are too high to a specific network (eg. Verizon) then before the actual launch Neotel could arrange extra or appropriate peering s with that network. Now if this was the launch Neotel would not have had the opportunity to smoothen things up a bit.

I hear what you are saying. I am responding to the information that there is now, whether or not this is the final offering I cannot know/say.

What I can say is that in this form, it is not going to be a viable alternative to Telkom. Not at all.

Agree. No ethernet means I'm not interested. It's back in the dark ages if you can't even make a voice call at the same time you're online. We're getting all that with ADSL already, why switch to get less.

Perhaps they will take note of all this 'whining' and change their product to something decent.

For now, it seems as if they will be the Virgin/Cell C of the industry - just more of the same, only here it seems they are even a bit worse than the Telkom rubbish we already have :(
 
I was hoping that they had a fixed line solution but I think that Telkom is the one holding that up... going to wait and see.
 
guess they have to play their cards carefully, Telkom are working out their prices for the August price changes, and we all know why they give - Neotel need to do a lot more, don't like the idea of getting an up-load scrubbed when someone phones - and a few things as well - will mark their report card 'does not play well with others, must try harder '

I reckon Telkom will just drop prices across the board again and maybe bump all 384k users to 512 and get rid of 384, like when they got rid of 192.

Then they'll knock of like R100 odd off the 4Mb and some off all the others...

They won't get rid of line rental :mad:

I know this is the 'launch' offering, but what if I didn't want a bundled oferring? What if I *just* wanted internet access and bandwidth, and no phone, no SMS's? How much will that cost?

And I have to admit, I'm quite taken aback by the R500 for the service... I don't think it's WORTH more than R300, based on how over-priced our market is... I can't help but feel that we're getting a little screwed. Again. And still.

Anyways..back on topic...I'm also angry with Neotel because of this crap offering...hope they improve it before the launch.
