Low latency is only essential when playing online games.

For everyday E-Mail use, web browsing and downloads, you won't be able to tell the difference.

So no, most people do not need "good pings"... :rolleyes:
 
You do not technically NEED low pings true, but it never hurts to have.
But why would you want to make a step backwards? Not being able to use the phone and internet at same time, big step backwards. USB only? another big step.

I currently pay R120 for phone, R150 for 384, R188 for 4GB int, R130 for 30GB local, all adds up to R588. Sure the speed increase would be nice, and it would be nice to get rid of Telkom. But the disadvantages just don't make it worth my while. Besides I doubt Neotel will offer me 34GB of bw for R88...

Indeed, these are all valid points that have been raised by many others. I hope that Neotel is listening!
 
Will be interesting to see what telkoms response to this is. Doubt they'll reduce their adsl prices at all, given that people arent immediately posed to change.

I think eskom owe it to us all to implement a broadband service over the power grid - could help them fund the replacement of their infrastructure, as well as giving them additional sources of revenue. Although this is purely fictional writing.
 
Well you also need low pings for other services like streaming, skype/VoIP etc
and the focus is shifting to these type of services for the home user and for small business.
All the ISP's are pushing these services as benifits of broadband (even iBurst) but with such high pings its not really that ideal.

Latency does have a significant effect on browsing imo.

Sounds like NeoConnect fails on the internetz front.

Well I really hope they come along and offer some fixed line stuff.

This reminds me of Sentech in the old days. R500 p/m, more cap (undetermined amount), crappy latency (another WoW player so this is a biggy for me).

The big turn off is the whole voice / data thing. Seriously, wtf? I thought they were going to revolutionise the telecoms industry in South Africa not throw it back to the dark ages.

Dont know if I could post ASCII art here, but I will just say this: Set sail for fail.

However, it could turn out alright when they launch... come on Neotel, step your game up. This country is crying out for faster speeds (that includes latency), more cap (or no cap - haha fat chance) and cheaper prices. While that is all a pipe dream, you would have had massive impact if you had done it like that (if it was at all possible). This trial so far has failed to impress, and could possibly sink you.

there is local p2p? please give me more details i want cos only have local left and wanna push it to the max. I have 50 gigs local 2 use. please inform me

yea dam cos i capped my 2gb and 3gb account and still got all that local bandwidth left that goes to waist every month. thats when myadsl see's the most of me cos its one of the few sites that i can visit.

but if i could get p2p up and running on local and we could all share i would be happpy.... what ever happened to dc++ that was kick ass.... but it has faded away now. or if we can get local torrents aswell would be great or even news servers that are downloadable it would be great we could put our local bandwidth to the max

I will bet anyone R1000 that i can send a pigeon with a 8gig flashdrive to a friend in another town faster than he can download it from me. I will prove it with screen shots/pictures with timestamps etc. Anyone wanna take this on? :) I will also take your bettings lets go! :D
