New FNB Smartphone App

Does anybody know if FNB charges you when you make transaction using the app? Cellphone banking is free so wondering if this is also free or do they charge you like they do when you use internet banking?

You may be charged for data but it's unlikely if there will be transaction fees based on the usage of the app.

FNB launch an app for a Blackberry, yet 90% of the BB's in operation can't use the app!

Brilliant!!

I'm also disappointed, only models 95xx and 9800 are supported.. They say the Minimum OS version is ver. 5 yet other Blacyberry's with ver 5 & 6 are not supported. what about people with 8520, 9300, 9700, 9780 etc

See the link I posted above, doesn't look like the Nokia version supports the banking features, I could be mistaken so wait for someone else to verify it

Ovi Store has the original digital phone and not the new FNB App.

Is it safe? I've always avoided banking from my phone because of security concerns.

Sounds cool I wish Standard bank had one

not promising, the last time i checked their sms notifications were arriving a day late, something fnb perfected a decade ago,to enjoy the most up to date banking tech services in sa join fnb, they are way ahead of everybody

i agree about the map - opening the destination in google maps would be a win.
i think a lot of the size (mb) of the app is due to the graphics.
they could have cut out the pretty stuff and used a bit more of the native widgets, imo, but i guess that's subjective.
it's also annoying that when you switch to another app and then switch back it does a whole animation thing.
it's also a bit annoying on ios that you go to the news section first and have to search for a small button called 'ok' to actually go to the banking bit.
it's a great start though, nicer than the wap app.

Thread hijack...

I had some OTP issues on my FNB account which was resolved today. I would just like to know. Is it possible for me to set my Primary OTP option in FNB online banking? I've gone through the settings (it gets delivered by email now) and I don't see it. I'd like to make my Cell No. my primary OTP option and I don't want to visit a branch

Back to the topic

Just downloaded the FNB app on my iPhone and linked it

Great stuff

I never knew I had an FNB connect number 087 xxx

Anyone using FNB connect?

Great app. Well done FNB.

I was discussing this with a friend, and figured I would repost my thoughts here. Basically, here are ten things I would change about the FNB app:

1. Get rid of the lame animated introduction.

2. Take the locator, "contact us" and forex off the main page. Making the password login the landing screen.

3. Make the "login" button bigger and more central. This is nitpicky, but whatever.

3. Get rid of the "News" page. Make it so that once you've logged in, it takes you straight to your accounts.

4. Remove the VOIP functionality. FNB already has an app for this. I don't know why a bank in South Africa has such a boner for idea of competing with Skype, but please don't muck up your banking app with functionality nobody cares about. Also, I don't need an FNB-branded replacement for my dialer and contacts manager; the stock apps work just fine, thanks.

5. (Android version only) Make the main menu (ie. Accounts, Transfers, Payments, etc.) a series of tabs at the top of the screen that are always visible, in keeping with the standard Android UI idiom. Don't put them at the bottom of the screen (this is the iPhone idiom) and ffs, don't hide the main menu and make it accessible from a pull-up tab when this is the most important and frequently-used element of the interface!

6. Okay, this isn't really a change: the "slot machine"-style screen for payments and transfers is cool and intuitive. And also an ironic commentary on vagaries of "casino capitalism" perhaps?

7. The "services" tab could use a few more features. They should add in some of the things you can already do through FNB ATMs, eg. buy airtime, pay traffic fines. These are features that would actually be useful.

8. Make the app smaller. 18mb is ridiculous. Clearly their Android developers are ****, and they made the iPhone version first and then this gigantic port. Sigh... as usual, Android users get treated like second-class citizens.

9. Tie the search functionality to the hardware search key. Make the search function search accessible throughout the app using the search key or the context-sensitive menu key.

10. Allow me to opt out of those annoying FNB SMS alerts, and instead receive push notifications from this app when there's activity on my account.

The main thing is, make the UI more streamlined, focus on the primary things that the user needs from a banking app. Still, it's not bad fora first attempt. I give them a lot of props for being the only bank in SA to make the effort.

Great post and a few worthwhile suggestions. Im sure if we all leave some feedback in the appropriate app stores, they will look into enhancing it. If it's a banking app, I want to bank with it and that's it. Add all the other junk to the FNB connect app. They are both free, so we can only download what we need or want to use

So optimistic :)

On the other hand I did not realise Standard Bank still had customers. Good for them!

seriously, I think only FNB are giving something back to the customers. None of the other banks cares and they just milk you

10. Allow me to opt out of
those annoying FNB SMS alerts,we differ on this one,
