New iBurst Wireless Plus pricing revealed

I can not express enough how disappointed I am that I-Burst will actually charge for the soft cap, it would make sense on the 1GB package and up but on the 5GB package plus an additional fee to get the same as what I have now?!?!?!?! B.S.! I really hope they relook their uncapped offerings.... It's B.S.!

Iburst must also remember that the GIGA user paid R239 (or R199 on month to month).

Specifically because of the 1st GIG thats full speed and then have the 64K uncapped as a backup. (To email, IRC, Surf, the odd download etc.etc)

Now the same user will have to pay big big money ..... to get similar functionality

Exactly my problem, and there seems to be so many unanswered questions about these new packages, and they're launching on 1st December?

1 December.

iBurst sees the 64k throttle as a loss. Whether it is because of those who download at 24/7 30 days per month and/or because of occasional 'unthrottles' - iBurst wants to do away with it. The primary reason for the price reductions seems to be this, get rid of 64k and increase the cap a little bit for example from 10GB to 15GB. The cheaper booster prices are nice, but they are package dependent, the cheapest is R39/GB (I assume a 15GB user can buy those) but they become more expensive as the tier drops. Now if at 0 cap and hardcapped, it would be ok to buy a 1GB for R39 -it's not so much and live on that for a while to do basic things but what if there is a problem with buying b/w and it is the weekend or late at night? You're stuck.

Secondly, the increased b/w from seacom does not seem to be the main motivator for these packages - they're a response to the slight drops by the other players and a way to try to convert the losses in 64K into higher packages and cheaper boosters for those on higher packages. An untrottled uncapped solution will be nice too but I wonder if iBurst will give us something like Openweb with R1299+ Line Rental Cost and = uncap after hours, bearing in mind that OpenWeb is giving you up to 4Mb/sec in that equation and iBurst at the best is only capable of 1Mb/sec (perhaps 2Mb/sec but that requires another modem).

I got Iburst for one reason and one reason only, and thats was for the throtteling service after cap. If another isp were to offer me the same service at a affordable price I would jump ship from Iburst in a heartbeat. If Iburst thinks I'm blind enough not to notice that their screwing me over with these new packages, they are sadly mistaken

Some iBurst subscribers do use the 64K uncapped service 'extensively' but the vast majority don't. (we see the usage patters every month).

In fact, the 64K throttled service causes a lot of problems for many people who don't understand it and then believe the service broke as it slowed down so much prompting them to call into the service desk.

If we look at the stats, these people tend to use their cap and then use a small bit at the 64K level. But not much. And then they possibly top up.

By increasing the cap for them, say from 3 to 5G, they now will have more data for the same price and will not need to hit the 64K barrier.

And if they do want to top up, it's now substantially cheaper. R59/B, down from R199/G.

So, for most subs, the new bundles really do offer substantial savings.

Something like a 64K or 128K uncapped service is not really a consumer type of product. You guys understand and can use it, but then most of you guys are Internet-savvy.

For those 'specialists' who basically use iBurst for P2P exclusively, the current bundles might make more sense. It's your choice, remember.

We will soon add a flat-rate unthrottled, uncapped after hour service which might work even better for these guys.

Jannie, you mention that "some iBurst subscribers use the 64K uncapped service 'extensively' but the vast majority don't".

If the majority don't use it, that means only a small percentage of "Internet-savvy" users, use the 64kbps service.

You've made the majority of your customers happy by increasing caps and lowering OOB prices,

which by the way we asked and you listened. Thanks for that.

But nowhere in that thread, anyone asked to drop the 64kbps service.

Why not make everyone happy and keep the 64kbps service going.

64kbps doesn't sound alot, but it means alot for some of the current iBurst users.

So the question I ask, is this final.

Won't you ever reconsider in keeping the 64kbps service with the new prices/packages and make all your customers happy?

There's 2 days left, before the 1st December, please reconsider...;)

Agree with you fully

Only about 30hours till the 1st, I'm still excited about the new packages but I'd really like to know if using the uncapped services on all accounts has been reconsidered...

Yip, In that case I guess that I'll just use the 2gig package, buy 3 top-ups and pray that Ibursts bandwidth usage reports are accurate so I can keep a real close eye on my bandwidth.

On another note. Jannie, was local only bandwidth ever discussed by your product team? Maybe each account could be given 15% of their packages bandwidth in local only bandwith which could be used when they have used up all of their int. bandwidth.

For instance if someone is on a two gig package they would get 300mb of local only.

You could then also sell local only top-ups for somewhere around R12 a gig :D?

Ps if you are looking to replace your product team at any point in time I'm sure that I could take over from the whole team and think up better, cheaper and more profitable products in a much shorter time:rolleyes:

My Iburst is going to expire feb, and i was actually going to cancel and get ADSL, but now, with this new structure, i have actually decided to renew my account. so well done to Iburst for that one!!!

What i cant understand though, The new 2 gig account, allong with 3 gig boosters is cheaper than the 5 gig Acc? i know your further boosters are R10 cheaper, but the account is R40 cheaper, making it you need to buy a extra 4Gig's (total of 9gigs) just to keep the accounts even. but the 8 Gig will cut in at cheaper then anyway.

This means that the 5 gig account is a COMPLETE WAIST!!! Did no one think it through?

I rarely use all my cap, and now that i am going to downgrade to a 2gig account, and only buy as i need, i am going to spending less money with iburst, its a loss to iburst, just cause they never checked the values of there new accounts.

Anyway, i have been in so many fights with the accounts in the past (Eg. they migrated my 3gig to a 500mb account by accident, and charged me for it too), and i think Iburst have come along way since then, i am really glad to see them actually making a effort now to keep with the times with the pricing. just wish they would put some effort into the quality of services, and not just marketing.

another question, will the renewal options stay the same? if not, i would like to know asap, so that i may apply for renewal tonight :P. (thats if there is a answer before then) ["service" is the word that comes to mind again :) ]

Do not renew your account/contract with iBurst. Go with month2month.

Things are changing fast in the ADSL market and ISP market.

You don't wanna be stuck with iBurst for another 2 years. That's suicide.

Yes, we have noticed that the new 2GB package works out cheaper than the 5GB package.

But the 5GB package gives you the privilege to add on the 64kbps service at an extra charge of R199....

Pay extra to be able to pay extra for a service, go figure.

Everyone's account should migrate automatically tonight at midnight, stay awake for the fireworks.

It's going to be an interesting 1st December.

The new products will however not have unlimited throttled bandwidth like some of the current iBurst products, but the company said that existing subscribers will have the option to remain on their contracts.

iBurst indicated that it will provide clarity before month end if the migration will be automatic or user-driven.

So how do I set my account to not auto migrate ... or is that just another promise that will not be kept.

I do NOT want to auto migrate as I am not going to pay an additional R 199 each month to get the same soft cap that I have. I am in a contract and if I get my soft cap taken away I want to be released out of my contract and go month to month instead please! This is a breach of contract and I want a comment from I-Burst please!

Van Zyl said they are currently looking at the existing bundle rules to see if they can do an automatic migration which will be the preferred route.
If there are legal concerns around automatic migrations a self-help process will be put in place and subscribers will be able to migrate themselves.
“We prefer to do an automatic migration but all subscribers will be informed about the new packages and migration will be free of charge,” van Zyl commented.

From what I understand, everybody is going to be automatically (Not written in stone) to the new packages from the 1st December.

However, according to Shaun in another post, you'll be able to migrate/change to your package of choice in mid December.

Migrations will be allowed in the new month. there should be no charge as long as your migration is up.

I wouldn't want to be working at help desk in December, it's going to be hectic.
