I dont think that existing contracts with the 64kbs throttle can be changed. This would be a major change in the subscriber contract. My guess is that only new people signed on after this comes into effect will have to purchase the "bolt on" uncapped throttle...

Hold the phone!! I don't see any reason to get overly enthused by iBurst's latest pricing moves. Considering that iBurst has absolutely no need for Telkom in the delivery of its service:
1) Why are they still charging per Gig when we've had 2 ISP's who've shown that it is possible to provide 100% uncapped ADSL from R399/month?
2) 64K...I'm about to drop a turd in my pants from non-excitement!
3) Am I the only one who thinks that iBurst is doing some fancy footwork with numbers while delivering sweet F-ALL in the face of market trends and solutions as currently offered by the likes of Chilli and Screamer? (hehehehe...chilli and screamer...sounds like one blerrie hot chilli[I digress]
It make no sense to me that we're singing the praises of a company that has simply changed the flavour and colour of the lube while giving us different versions of the same thing. Like NeoSmell, why can't iBurst come out with some truly uncapped services instead of this hocus-pocus, number-shuffling balls!!

You can certainly stay on your current package if it works better for you.
In your example above you actually get 3GB more data for a few bucks less.

Jannie i understand what you are saying but the truth is that i can do more than 3GB on the 64k if i wanted to , it would just take a bit longer.
This is just encouraging me to race through my cap asap and then just let the pc download 24/7 from the 3rd of the month right through till the end of the month at throttled .
Why is it encouraging me to do that you may ask ... well because I would be getting value for money than the new packages and i dont have to worry about micro managing my internet usage and that ill get disconnected completely.

27 x 24 x 60 x 60 x 6 = 13996800 kb
13996800 / 1024 = 13668.75 MB
13668.75 /1024 = 13.348 Gb theoretically possible on 64k downloading 24/7 over 27 days .
Stay on old package (theorectically)
13.348 GB + 5GB
New package
3 GB + 5GB
Which one looks more worth it ?

Those that 'abuse' the 64K never really used iBurst for anything other than downloading anyway, non-downloaders rarely went over 1GB on the throttled. Now they are offering, for R50 more, DOUBLE THE SPEED. Twice the 'abuse' for R50.
I welcome the extra GB from iBurst for free thanks (considering I never really used the 64K other than to check email and websites). And I'm sure the 'abusers' will welcome the 128K line too.
So instead of 13GB, they can now get 23GB... for R250...
Can anyone beat that?
(Remember to include telkoms line rental fees! so +R250 at least for all DSL lines!)

I was under the impression that it could be taken by itself. And if you cant take it by itself, can't you just add it to the "freeflo" package? (R0 for freeflo)

That's exactly the point.
Some iBurst subscribers do use the 64K uncapped service 'extensively' but the vast majority don't. (we see the usage patters every month).
In fact, the 64K throttled service causes a lot of problems for many people who don't understand it and then believe the service broke as it slowed down so much prompting them to call into the service desk.
If we look at the stats, these people tend to use their cap and then use a small bit at the 64K level. But not much. And then they possibly top up.
By increasing the cap for them, say from 3 to 5G, they now will have more data for the same price and will not need to hit the 64K barrier. And if they do want to top up, it's now substantially cheaper. R59/B, down from R199/G.
So, for most subs, the new bundles really do offer substantial savings.
Something like a 64K or 128K uncapped service is not really a consumer type of product. You guys understand and can use it, but then most of you guys are Internet-savvy.
For those 'specialists' who basically use iBurst for P2P exclusively, the current bundles might make more sense. It's your choice, remember.
We will soon add a flat-rate unthrottled, uncapped after hour service which might work even better for these guys.

i know you guys say it is number switching - well, I see it more of a "Breakdown" of the different features.
Yes, you might have to pay R50 more in certain conditions - but the gigs are cheaper to topup, you get much more - plus, you get to choose between 64k or 128k uncapped - and only 50 bucks more! (that's 1/4th the price of 64k uncapped extra - but 200% the speed!)
also - gives the guys that "abuse" the uncapped connection the chance to ONLY buy the uncapped option, instead of buying gigs.

They have tried to accommodate the users still wanting uncapped at 64kbit/s and the new 128kbit/s package.
However:
What is disappointing is that there is really not much here new in terms of innovation.
A flat rate for access would probably have been better.
For those users still wanting the throttled uncapped service, the pricing is not an incentive.
