New iPhone was launched yesterday... has lots of new features... gps, 3g all the goodies except keyboard... but i have a touch screen phone, and i don't mind not having a keyboard
Neither of those articles are particularly convincing. One is out of date and the other complains that he can't type while driving. Hardly groundbreaking criticism.

but what of the price? at 200 dollars, its actually very cheap! look at the n95 8gb, that costs about 650 dollars, and the htc diamond doesnt have 8gb memory, and costs 500 pounds (so htc touch pro should cost more?).
i'm not an apple fan at all (in fact, i despise apple) but its hard to hate all the features of the iphone at 200 dollars. but i'll wait and see it released locally first (both fones actually) and then decide. all indications tho are that i'll be getting an iphone

The current iPhone retails for between 5.5k-8.5k despite it selling for $300 abroad so I wouldn't be surprised to see the 3G retail for around 6.5k despite the $200 price tag touted... Retailers will price it according to it's competitors..i'm not an apple fan at all (in fact, i despise apple) but its hard to hate all the features of the iphone at 200 dollars. but i'll wait and see it released locally first (both fones actually) and then decide. all indications tho are that i'll be getting an iphone

Those are fair criticisms none of which are particularly relevant to me and my choice of phone. To each their own though.

It is irrelevant as we are discussion the new iphone, not the old one.
The iphone is not currently sold here officially, so any phone you buy here is a grey import.

3G iPhone:
- no word on MMS, Flash, Video, A2DP support.
- big screen, faster interface, multitouch, 3.5mm audio jack, 8 or 16GB memory, huge development community
Touch Pro/Diamond:
- no word on its video player, 512mb internal memory on the Pro/4GB on the Diamond, both Gizmodo and Engadget have complained about their pre-release models (of the Touch Diamond) being sluggish at times...unimaginative development community
- memory expansion (Pro), Opera mobile supports flash/java, qwerty keyboard (the on screen keyboard on the Diamond is just horrible), removable battery, you dont need iTunes
, GPS+aGPS, not every Tom, Dick and Harold will own one.
..I own the original Touch, which is kinda slow..I dont want to make the same mistake. So I'm waiting for official reviews.

Go with the HTC touch pro. It's 528mhtz processor suggests it will not be slow like the original touch which uses a measly 2000mhtz processor. I'm almost certain that HTC have sorted out their driver issues by now too...surely?...

I currently have a Nokia N80 and the HTC Touch, nice fones but there are better ones out there now.

I would go with which ever is cheaper.

It's been speculated around R4k, even at R5k it represents reasonably good value for money but for me the Touch pro is the one to have or even the upcoming N96...
