After getting tired of the Ubuntu project and their constant updates. I ended up canning Ubuntu as the base of my distro.

However a new project has been started. It is basically the same as Linobuntu but instead of being based on Ubuntu it is now Suse based.

This was chosen due to having shorter release cycles. I am more commited than ever as I plan to eventually fully migrate both my desktop, laptop and server to Suse and OpenSuse.

If it all goes according to plan this build will have both 32bit and 64bit version available. With both KDE and GNOME releases.

If anyone would like to contribute in anyway you are more than Welcome. So far I am looking for bootup and a logo.

I would love a wallpaper/bootup that said LinoSuse. With a seperate small round logo that has a fancy L and S on it.

Linobuntu / LinoSuse.

Howzit Boet!

Im interested. Very.
BUT...
I have a request:
BG -> I have a Dell Optiplex GX240 CURRENTLY running PCLinuxOS. I have an ATI Radeon 9200SE. Ive tried, many times, to install the ATI driver, but because of the VERSION of XORg PCL uses, I cant. It quits as the check.sh script cannot find XOrg (version is too high). Take note that I successfully installed the driver on every Ubuntu release up to 8.08.

My req --> what version of Suse will you start with? Im asking cos I want to know if Ill be able to use the 8.28.8 fglrx driver....
Also, I tried downloading Linobuntu, but I eventually tired of the many parts. Had to redownload 4 parts cos they were corrupted in the tansfer... Please try giving us a ful ISO, if its not too much to ask for. AND STAY AWAY FROM RAPIDSHARE!! :)

Also, CONGRATS on being one of the first truly SA distros. Im willing to help with whatever you may need, within the confines of my limited intelligence :)

Never tried it but will keep my eye on your distro - sounds cool.

Thank You!

So what do you provide in your distro over and above the distr you base it on?

So is it like an ultimate edition, but going to use suse at the root?
That could be great

Weren't the constant updates a good thing? :) I.e. security fixes, new features

Some very good questions.

Obviously it is basically a customised version of OpenSuse/Suse. For that reason only so much can be changed. It is more aimed at being an "out of the box" running distro for people who want a system that just works.

Rather a more complete package.

Constant updates are a good thing, however redoing a distro every 6 months like Ubuntu was too time consuming. I opted for OpenSuse as a base thus it can be updated by the official repository without any problems. Thus it is 100% compatible with the original product.

Even nicer is if someone installs LinoSuse 1.0 which is based on OpenSuse 11.1 and they want to upgrade to lets say OpenSuse 12, they can do it without any data loss. This was not something I could achieve with Ubuntu.

Thank you for your compliment. They are some other truly SA distros. However they have many people working for them, where I am just one person.

Currently LinoSuse 1 will be based on OpenSuse 11.1

Hey linoman, first off I'm willing to help if I can.

Second question, how are you going to go about building your distro? I have played with the LFS project (Have not finished my distro yet) based on OpenSuse 11.0

I actually started with LFS however it proved too tiresome and needs a lot of time. However I am now using Suse Studio to build it

It is not a distro, it is just a custom SuSE installation, nothing more.

If you want to build a distro then you should take care of the entire package, including repositories, package manager and whatnot.

True but at least it is an attempt

Im not the biggest fan of SuSe.... even though I have installed 100`s of systems.. but hey.. Ill support this!.. in words only though. Good luck Linoman!
