New LTE AUP from September 2016

You can use 300, supposedly, before being throttled. It's still objectively a good deal, provided performance doesn't go out the window completely. It's just not what we signed up for.

True, still good value @R799 per month but not if you consider you compelled to sign a 24 month contract and new sign ups don't qualify for the Poynting external antenna. That's a R2k piece of kit that makes a huge impact on overall performance, particularly if you in an area with a weaker signal.

I think in the absence of fibre it's a worthwhile alternative but you can get a 500gb fibre line @ 100/50Mbps for R850 on a month to month with VOX. Unused data rolls over too...

Someone mentioned they signed up last month and got the antenna same time as the router. Might be a case of insisting on it or crying about performance to get one.

It was me. I didn't think it was included until I saw it.

So what do you surmise the contention ratio on these products is?

However many people are using the site simultaneously. If a lot of people are online, you aint getting good speeds. There is no contention on the backhaul as far as I can gather.

Contention is undoubtedly a little more complex than this simple example, but 100mbps contended 4:1 doesn't automatically mean 25mbps maximum for everyone at all times. If one person is downloading at line speed but the others are only browsing the effect would be negligible. Only when multiple people on a contended connection are running full taps and together outstripping the bandwidth allocated to that link, will the experience of everyone be badly affected.

This is, again, why streaming makes sense. Because a stream downloads in bursts everyone on a link doesn't need constant maximum throughput. Torrents and multithreaded downloads wreak havoc with bandwidth allocation though, because a minority can quickly saturate a link shared with many others.

Do you have VOX's product listing? Seems kinda hard to find on their website

In conjunction with Fibrehoods?

Oh darn, not in my area.

I know fibre is available through others though. Will just have to check which providers

Side note, I'm still happy with my R599 uncapped. We rarely even use over 200gb per month, and speeds are decent after I contacted Greg a while ago - it seemed like they upgraded the tower

Does the steam downloads count towards the 50 GB P2P/NNTP?

They do not

Nice so after 300Gb it is throttled to 2megs for the rest of the month. Is that correct? Also how long does the waiting list take (stupid question I know but I am excited :D)

Well I just got this, does it mean just for this month or for next month as well

I've been on 2mb for a few days now, trying to do my work. I'm gonna find out if there's any fibre options for me. If they would throttle to something reasonable like 8-10mb I'd be very happy. My speeds were 100% before I hit the cap

Why not add a bundle to the line and control usage until 01/11?
