Ok, so I'm studying for my motorcycle learners; I'm going to book and get date next month.

Meanwhile I'm checking out a bike in the +-R12k region.
I'm looking for a new one.

I've never actually rode a bike before. I'm looking at 150cc (maybe 125cc) and up.

I'm interested in getting the 200cc version of this bike (Supermoto): http://www.gomoto.co.za/Products/Supermoto.aspx which is approx. R12500.00, which is said to top 120km/h. The 125cc is R10999.00, which tops 90km/h.

Also have I been looking at this: Bujaj Pulsar 180 http://www.superiorcycles.co.za/page62.html ar R13999.00.

Are these great for newbies?
Or please recommend something new in this specified price range, and where.

Also what finance options/institutions can I look at? I'm looking at 36 months.

Not really sure about those bikes mate. I started on a Mito 125cc - but that topped out at about 170km/h! Going small to start off with certainly can't hurt. Once you know how to not only handle a bike but handle a bike in a safe manner around SA rounds you can start looking at something bigger.

EDIT: No recommendation on financing - never financed a bike before.

Expect a Chinese M/bike to last 2 years max (+/- 25000 km) and keep an eye on oil level. I went twice from C.T. to Jeffery's Bay on holiday on mine and used it daily, a 200cc Loncin.

Googled it, bike looks awesome.

And the resell value?

Wow, that's some distance! 700km. Petrol you used?

I'm looking at +-100k's a week.

I first got a Gomoto Freedom 125cc for R7k. That thing is friggen amazing. I got it in early 2008, and its still going strong. I sold it to a mate of mine about a year ago. Used to cost me R50/month petrol.
It was probably my best buy of my life - then again i am only 25, but still :)

If you get the Supermoto, keep us informed how it goes. I sold my CBR900RR a few months ago, and am looking to buy something small to commute on. I'm keen on the Pulsar, there's plenty around and I seriously rate them.
