My router is a few years old now, and it has started giving issues the past few months, which have gotten way worse the past week.

So I am in the market for a new router, but I have not looked at these things for a long time, and so dont really know where to start looking.
Any decent ones that people could recommend? From what I have been reading, people dont seem happy with D-Link? Maybe Netgear then?
Although, looking for specific models, not just brands

I'd recommend if you're buying new try get something which supports VDSL - sure we may be a few years off but might as well future proof.

right, budget is prob between R700 and R1500, although R1500 seems quite steep. Not too sure what the better average ones are. Top of the line seems close to 2grand

What issues? :)

What issues? :)

It is a Trendnet that is a few years old now. Prob 4 years or so. It "drops" every now and then, getting more and more frequent. And the internet dies. I am unable to access the admin area then, and the browser just sits trying to find/access the admin area. Only way to get it working again is the almighty, "flip the power switch of and on".

Also, every now and then the wifi no longer connects you to the internet, even though ethernet connections still work fine.

And then once every few weeks, it just randomly looses all my settings, factory resets itself I guess.

But the main issue which is highly annoying is the constant loss of internet.

I've ordered a TP-DP 8970 Gigabit router today through Uniterm Direct today.
Got a very decent discount because I'm a MyBB member.

Reviews looked good on it, so I hope it is okay.

I basically was looking for Gigabit capability, 2 x USB ports and apparently the QoS function is not to bad.

I wanted to buy a Mikrotik, but decided against it and went for the TP.
Will buy the Mikrotik later if still needed.

The issues are not age related that is just Trendnet.
Mine has done all that since new.

I use and can recommend the D-Link DSL2750U. The wireless isn't the strongest but then all these all-in-one units give average signal.

You didn't mention whether you need wireless built-in, or just wired. If you have a switch and/or only need a signal ethernet port, etc.

But for an all-in-one/general purpose, the 2750 is my go-to.

Helping people out is always kind, though I wonder how useful it is/the motives behind it when people don't even bother to read the OP and answer accordingly. :wtf:

or as with this case, does exactly what the OP asked not to do :)

lol, Netgear DG834G

I'm so used to answering this question with the model as well that I start assuming people know exactly what I'm talking about

I'm about to replace my D-Link DIR-615. Probably with excessive force and a brick wall.
Seems its the reason for the intermittent DNS issues I've been having, and turns out the DNS server on it crashes completely if you try and use it with a Nexus 7 (2012).
I've also been looking at the TP-Link routers. Are they worth it?
