New The PC Build Thread

Yeah but mini PCs still have ethernet and wifi modules, the building in of sim card slots seems to have stopped as cellular modules add complexity.
If I'm doing a streaming setup on the go, I don't want to carry something extra that needs extra power such as a modem or phone. Nor do I want the extra weight or potential extra chord that could go loose.

streaming what? If you just want to watch something, get a tablet

Hi I want to buy a budget "gaming" pc for my son

I5, 32gig memory (want to upgrade later to 64gig) with 1tb m2 ssd.

650W power supply to add 3060 graphics card at a later stage

No windows, screen or keyboard needed.

Budget R10 -R12k

Just for context he has a gen 3 I5 16gig ram with a 1060 graphics card for the last couple of years.

Would appreciate suggestions

No need for 64gb ram for gaming yet. By the time its needed you'll replace the pc.. or he will :P

That CPU has no integrated gfx, so would need to re-use the 1060
Avoid that ssd: "Endurance: 80TBW" ..it will die so fast. Look for one with 600TBW or ideally above 1200

Hi All
whenever there is load shedding, my keyboard will disconnect from the pc afterwards, but still draw power. So it will go into the RGB demo mode and cycle through the patterns, but PC will not see it until I unplug the usb and plug it back in again. It did not do this with my previous build so I think it is the way the motherboard bios handles usb devices? Is there a setting I can change?

Any other companys make wood cases ? Think fractal has one but very expensive
Yes antec ax63 has bit of wood. Corsair sells wood front panel replacements for most there new models. Fractal wood case is pretty bit think its sold out though.

I would go for a am5 system just because of how long the sockets are in use for.

Am4 is still good in 2025 and was released in 2016 and going on that am5 should be good till 2031. Intel is about to change to a new socket after a year. Based on that I would get amd.

- Cpu ryzen 7600x or 9600x which are around 4.7-5.5k.
- Micro atx am5 motherboard - like this https://www.wootware.co.za/gigabyte...socket-am5-micro-atx-desktop-motherboard.html.
Not the best and I
would not oc with this but is fine and has 4 dims with 6000mhz. Also if you get a 9000 cpu this needs a bios update so tell wootware to do it for you or it will not work.
Ram - 32gig ddr5 6000mhz. https://www.wootware.co.za/g-skill-...-6000mhz-cl36-1-35v-black-desktop-memory.html
- Case - whatever is left in the budget even the R650 antec looks good.
- Cooler and psu you chose are fine. R2000 for both.
- a m.2 nvme 1tb lots for R1300

Comes to R13000 which is a bit over but I would say saves some cash in the long run.
