So all the articles i see have been about buying eToll thingies and registering but how does one unregister? or is this another case of tv licence like back invoicing even when you die and car moved on too?

In particular sale of vehicle vs eToll register concerns me.. if i buy a car to i inherit eToll fines? or if i sell do i get billed for new owners driving??

You go to a SANRAL office and hand your tag in and ask them to remove your account. You will then receive any money back after 60-90 days. How it works if there are fines, I don't know.

Also, just one last thing to mention. If the country could stand together and everyone avoid the e-toll roads, this will through the who e-toll system into chaos. They will not generate a profitable income. The company abroad will suffer severe losses. But, that is only if people stand together and leave the highways empty

Tell me how will the thousands of vehivles on the N1 between R21 and Lynnwood traverse? all these trucks going over the mountain through back roads? Sorry, just not practical. They have us by the balls. So they force us to pay as there really is no other road/route to use. Feels like typical apartheid strong arm tactics by the government.

Precisely. Then everyone using the toll roads will just simply have to pay up. To save a bit of money, they are advised to go and get e-tags.

the government sure has arrogance by pulling this stunt in the midst of the Turkey / Brazil protests.

my guess is their following won't be as loyal & blind to their crap after Madiba's ticket is punched as they'd like to believe.

interesting days ahead...

I'll say it again, I won't be surprised if people give in and buy these tags at the end. Taking alternative routes will eventually become too tedious.

I think you're right, we'll rather give the cash than to stand up and waste time and energy fighting this. Someone else will fight the fight for us in any case, and if they don't, well that is ok to.

Sounds like you guys have already given up.... so who are the ones with no backbone?

Yeah, people the only way we'll get the ANC to back down is to stand together & not buy e-tags en masse.
Haven't you learned anything about mass action?

Do you really think we have it in us to standup against this government and do what is reauired to change the system? my experience is that we are good at moaning, bad at action.

If you are not living in Gauteng, then you can stand by and support the guys in Gauteng.
If you are living in Gauteng, all you have to do is NOTHING. Don't buy an e-tag.
The system will fail by itself.

Who said yes?

I did for the simple fact I can't afford to pay the standard rate as if I didn't have an e-tag. I travel R100 km per day on the highway, without an e-tag my bill would be astronomical.

If I was single without children, and lived 5km from work, then yes I would happily boycot however thats not at all practical when you have to consider other factors like family and the real cost.

Without an etag you wouldn't have to pay anything when the system collapses. You're just enabling the theft.
