Official Afrihost Q&A Thread

admins, can or why dont you make these QA threads moderated so to only let the top questions and afrihost responses through, so you dont have to go through all the chatter, cause im sure gian doesnt have the time to read through all of it.

I have a normal 5gb R145 account, and the buggers shaped my 4mb line to 384k speeds now as well.

I am not even on one of the uncapped packages - I will give notice and make certain I don't suffer as a result of all the rest.

Just did a test on my 384. is that correct?
i am getting 2 kbps downloads on torrentz.

i think they shaping the torrents though?

Speedtest is good for 384. Mine are similar with a higher ping.

I agree w.r.t. shaping torrents.

I wish it was shaping but gmail is slow or failing, international browsing is slow.
I think its just a general fail.

Yes, everyone seem to be having problems. I'm on Gconnect unshaped and was getting disconnected this morning. Seems ok now :)

It's those Somali pirates I tell you :D

There are mods on this forum?

I want to sign up with uncapped, it says "this option is not reversible"

what does that mean? Incase I lose my job I want to be able to stop the uncapped service.

Anybody know about this?

Heh, i don't think it's related to that. It most likely means "we are going to charge you, and your current account will no longer exist if you change your mind, so you can't reverse this action and get your money back" . You can still cancel whenever, you just can't simply switch your account around every week and expect to pay once.

Basically if you're on 5GB and upgrade to uncapped, and you use 10GB, you can't then just switch back to your original 5GB account and get your money back midway through the month. You'll most likely will have to either

a] Cancel your uncapped and recreate a new account (i.e 5GB account)
b] Downgrade at the end of the month for the next month

Even Telkom ISP work like [a] . If you want to change your bundle, they actually cancel your current one, and create a new one. So i assume this is what they mean.

Same here. I have no need for uncapped, but when I want / need to download a torrent (which isn't very often) on my 4096 line I really don't expect to be throttled to under 50kB/s - which is currently the case as I am writing this. Throttle the uncapped pigs, not us!!!

Thinking about this a bit more: why don't the ISP's just have banded pricing per GB instead of this uncapped BS? In other words, if you're using less than 10GB a month you pay R29 per GB. Every gig between 10 and 30 will cost you (say) R20 each and then anything over 30 will come down to R10 per GB?

I think uncapped is just a stupid idea. Trust MWEB to fork everything up for us. I'm betting they did this on purpose to cause mayhem in the market.

Anyone getting usable speeds here? I've done 1.8GB data transfer this month and Giganews has been dead in the water all day.
