OFFICIAL HTC Desire Thread

I got my HTC Desire 2 days ago on MTN Anytime 200 Topup for R339 and with R0 pay in. Don't know why vodacom needs a pay in for each phone.

Love the phone. But battery heavy but its ok! Its a decent phone!

Found the app Widget Locker today... Basically allows you to put widgets on your lock screen. Got a ton of options though so you can customise your lock screen quite a bit.

Hi guys :)

My father just got himself the HTC desire on the MTN 350.

We don't know anything about these kinds of phones, and the people at MTN can't help us O.o

I was wondering if you guys might be able to give a little help.

I'd like to know if we pay for the use of the widgets such as the weather update thats on the phone when you start it up that shows you the temperature and everything. Does one pay for the news widget as well, that gives you the news updates ? Also, we can connect to the 'maps' application, and i'd like to know if that costs as well *g*

Mtn doesn't tell us anything! So we have no idea if we're able to use this without paying..

*noob aura*

I wish I was joking... But now, it charged to green LED, I disconnected the charger, powered it down. Plugged the charger back in and it goes green straight away... :/

i have the same problem, straight to green after i put the phone off and charge

@cybert- what did you do to get it to work??

Tried again. :P

But mine did not work, next morning when I unplugged it went to 89% almost instantly... Haven't had the time to try anything else...

Try switch the phone on, let it reboot in full, then power down and plug the charger in again. Should get it to charge a little longer before going to green/full.

EDIT: Mine did the same thing but on the 2nd attempt it charged for a few minutes longer before going to green...

Wall Charger to conduct this exercise..

Hmm, must actually try find mine. I was using the USB cable.

Discovered (the hardway) that all USB chargers are not created equal quite recently. My work Blackberry was completely flat just before going on a work trip, I thought oh well I'll just charge it from my notebook on the plane only to discover that if the phone is completely flat, the USB charging doesn't work (probably something to do with the start up current). Thankfuly I managed to get a blackberry charger from the hotel and that charged it fine.

did you leave the phone to die before trying this? mine is currently on 26% and i would like to do this now. also is there an improvement?

No, mine was around 40% when I did it. Been a significant difference for me yes. Getting 2 days on a single charge. Moderate to light use, wifi on 14 hours a day, push Gmail, about 20-25 smses per day, 3-4 calls roughly of 1 minute each give or take.. Charged mine overnight and currently on 91%. Been on since 7.30am..

so to be sure that the battery thing works the led must not be green after you put phone off and on charge again? it has to charge for a couple of minutes once off and put on charge again?

mine is charging now, will put of and charge again (it will prob go straight to green) then i put it on (completely) and off again and then charge and hopefully it will charge a extra bit?

These things all use the internet connection, so you will be charged for that. Best to get a small data bundle. If you do all your internet browsing and other heavy stuff over WiFi then a 10MB bundle will be enough to keep the widgets and basic stuff going. Otherwise you may want at least 150MB a month to make good use of the phone's internet capabilities :) Android phones have an excellent web browser.

i got it to charge further but it doesnt seem to make the battery last longer. after charging it full, putting off and charging, putting on and then off and charging then putting on and it went from 100 to 96 in 5 mins (wifi and playing an online game villains) is this right???

Not sure. How much battery power would you have lost prior to doing the fix under the same load? If the phone is rooted it is recommended that the battery stats are wiped.

about the same amount of battery would be drained, since the last post i lost another 5% am on 91 now and not rooted
