Official HTC One (M8) Thread

Do any of guys have insurance on your phones and if so who with and how much per month? I just got a quote from the people who insure my car and their price per month was R154.12. I'm trying to see if I can get something closer to R100p/m.

Nope - no phone insurance. With the prices of them these days it may be worth it. I'd cry if I lost my m8.

I bought a Kingston one there for R390 excluding VAT.

UHS-1 is UHS-1. One brand won't be slower than the next. That's the purpose of having standards.

UHS-1 may be UHS-1, and class 10 may be class 10, but the read / write speeds still vary. The Samsung is rated at 80 megs / sec write and 90 read. What's yours rated at?

That difference is what we paid for.

No idea what it's rated for, but a real-world benchmark (A1 SD Bench) shows read at 120MB/s and write at 47. Both of which are a hell of a lot faster than the internal memory on my Note 3, and that internal memory is more than good enough to record and play back 4K video flawlessly.

Hi All, picked up my M8 from vodashop at the Glen yesterday(grey - 16gig) , I put in an MTN nano sim which I had to do a swim swop as I dont pick 3G signal with vodacom that well in the area in which i live. I have been battling to get internet settings from MTN ,called their call center spoke to nunerous people , eventually was told that my new sim is possibly damaged and that I must take it in to a service center to test another sim ( I can currently make and receive calls /smses) , this is so frustrating. Are any other MTN user haveing same issues?

Hmmm, fair enough. Thank you for filling me with a feeling of regret :P

I need to get a few 16 or 32 gb class 10 cards. Who is cheapest?

^^ I went with Takealot Verbatim SD cards (also spelt "Vebatim" IIRC). Just be sure to glance at related items at the bottom as the search keywords are not consistent and you may see a better deal that way.

thanks! Wow. Mobile fun is 200 bucs cheaper? Anyone bought from them?

I've used them twice. Once for a cover for my M8, and the other time for an extended battery for my S2.

A couple of things:

- Takes about 2 weeks to arrive (if you use the cheap shipping)
- If the value of your order is above a certain value, you have to get the expensive shipping (so it's probably faster)
- When I bought the extended battery (R450 after shipping) I had to pay a further R50 when picking it up from the post office.

I'd use them again though.

Will definitely use them for that price. Anyone used those glass screen protectors or know where to get them? Saw some from Zagg and Spigen but none of them deliver to Sa.

So how is everyone enjoying their M8's? I'm absolutely loving mine :D

Pro's:
-Sound is amazing - never heard anything like it.
-Design, build quality & materials is exceptional. Every time I pick it up I just look at how beautiful it is.
-Screen is superb, even in sunlight.
-HTC Sense 6 is great, even preferring it to Cyanogenmod (sue me). Very smart.
-Battery life wayyyyyyyyyyy better than expected. After a heavy day's use I'm left with 40% charge remaining. Light use sees two days easy
-Charges a lot quicker than my other devices?

Cons:
-Physical button layout takes some getting used to. Lots of accidental volume changes and screen on/offs happening at the moment.
-Miss dedicated keys of my S3. Not a fan of the Android on screen buttons. It seems google is pushing cell manuf in this direction?
-Notification LED could be brighter

Any tips and tricks?

Also trying to find these. Ordered the Naked wrap from Slickwraps so I don't need to cover with a fat case. Really need a good tempered screen protector but nothing locally. Could bring in some Chinese ones but the delivery charge means it only makes sense if you bring in a few and sell the rest....

Must say the battery life has been the most impressive part of this phone. That and the great speakers. And impressing friends with its beauty.... :D

I ordered the spigen glass protector from Mobile ZA. Will let you know how it does! Also ordered the spigen slim armour case. Hopeing for decent quality.

Has anyone compared photo quality of this with the S5/4 or G2? I've got the S4, had the G2 and I'm worried its not up to the standard I've come to expect from my phone...

Not yet. I've only taken a few photo's for Facebook / Instagram and they look great. I haven't viewed any at 100% on a PC yet (never have used cell camera for this) but I suspect that's where they will fall short due to resolution.

That's what I'm worried about... I love the convenience of my phone camera and want as close to the best I can get... My last few phones have really done well with this and are really close to what my camera offers :)
