Official Kaizer Chiefs Supporters Thread

Yeah, it's still a long way but we have not beaten Polokwane City since 2018, this must be a good omen and a confidence booster.

Middendorp is a clueless coach though and he must be thanked for his efforts and let go at the end of the season whichever way it goes.
Dankie Middendorp, now off you go to Chippa United or Golden Arrows.

On another note, it's good to see that the South African players are actually scoring this season for a change.

At this rate, either Themba Zwane or Bradley Grobler will hit 20 goals. No South African has done so since Siyabonga Nomvethe in 2012.

Gamildien also has a shot but I just have a feeling Swallows momentum might end soon.

Would you guys say that Mamelodi Sundowns (best team in SA) on a like for like basis would be equivalent to an English League One club?

I was having discussions about this to friends. Some say that they would be Championship material and others League One, a few go as far as say League Two.

Like for like I’d say lower end Championship material. Don’t see them worse than lower end League One.

I'd also say lower end championship material ... as a level for the club, not necessarily the players.

This isn't Ligue 1. I think with regular competition would make them competitive in the championship without necessarily challenging for promotion.

Dean Furman is probably the best guy to answer this as he has played in League One and League Two now.

He could only get into lower end Championship sides in his peak and turned out to be a good player for SuperSport, he probably could have played for one of the Gauteng giants if he wanted to.

I rate he will give a generic answer though as he seems to be a bit of a people pleaser.

i think a combined PSL team would definitely be Championship material!
although that would be 200 odd players to choose from!

At their best they would be good enough for the EPL, not premiership winning team but just good enough to hold their own. There are plenty ordinary teams there.

Dean Furman is a very good player who would have played in the EPL, him being stuck in the lower leagues at his peak shouldn't be a measure of his abilities, he's a utility player and those are very under- appreciated, just look at the disdain with which the Chiefs supporters treat Katsande compared to underperformers like Parker Billiat and the others.

It was the same with Nengomasha, he served the team with distinction for years, winning several trophies but he was just dumped like a nobody at the end of his career.

Mhhm, probably a bit of over-estimation there. Celtic and Rangers from Scotland are not even PL level.

Even the lower teams in the EPL spend like up to 3-6 million pounds on players.

Also, remember that when the EPL teams used to come here for Vodacom challenge, they used to mainly play youth players and reserves with a star or two. Nobody knew those players most of the time, I remember in 2006, a Chinese guy named Dong scored the winner for Man United against Chiefs and then was never heard of again.

Apart from Man City who got hammered by AmaZulu a couple of years ago, those EPL teams used to mostly win against first string local sides.
