Official Samsung Galaxy Note (N7000) Thread

Furk.. I'm a little annoyed that a company as big as samsung would use Hotfile.com to host their roms.. Stupid actually.

Whats wrong with it, works perfectly for me, everytime. Besides is sammobile even an official "partner" of samsung?

EDIT: checked the sammobile site, they fanboys who provide info from sources inside samsung and source and provide an unofficial download for the official roms.

Ah ok :o that explains it. In that case, I'm happy to wait :).
I just assumed that they where samsung...

Guides on sammobile for it. but its quite simple, extract the zip file making sure u have a folder with a .tar.md5 file and a dll file.

Reboot phone into download mode. Vol down + home + power.

run odin and load the .tar.md5 in by the pda button.

Connect phone, one of the boxes should turn yellow and have a com port number.

Bellow that will be 4 check boxes, 2 and 3 need to be filled.

Then flash and wait. Should take around 5 min, will reboot and update google and sammy apps.

Hi Craig,

following on from my PM - I re-read this earlier post and was about to use your instructions (which don't mention the 4 files) however you say:

Bellow that will be 4 check boxes, 2 and 3 need to be filled.

Whereas their tutorial says click 1 2 & 3 i.e. tick the re-partition box. Should I follow your instructions or theirs?

Cheers

I just sumarized the guide I got from xda, done it 3 times already.

I never had 4 files, always 2, and xda specifically said only the 2.
Gimme a sec, I will add the link now.

well its been what, 10 mins now and Odin has not changed and the phone remains in Downloading state.

Looks like something is wrong. Is there any safe way to exit from the current state?

dr.Ketan's guides are usually spot on. I used his original ICS guide (with root + cwm) and it went smooth as anything.

I used that guide 3 times without trouble. Knew the process pretty well with the latest one, just used it as reference.

If its begun flashing then I dont know of a safe way out, without a complete os the phones dead, weather or not u can "reset" the install I dunno, never needed to find out.

BTW, who is craig?

Update: well the good news is that I could close down Odin and also simply turn off the Note, even though in Downloading mode.

I've recklessly restarted the process, but once again, the upgrade process is seeming to die at the Message state I putin my earlier reply.

Do you recall what indication Odin or the Note should be showing, whilst upgrading? i.e. progress bars?

My Odin screen shows Hidden and the Message box last entry from several minutes ago, remains stuck on "hidden.img".

I'd put a screen shot up here, but MyBB only seems to support uploading from URL's not this PC

Honestly was not paying much attention, if I recall hidden was the first message if not one of them and the progress bar under the green square block was green, com port stays yellow.

There was also an on device progress bar.

IIRC, they do say that you should not re-partition the device, so that box should be unticked....? Just shows when last I flashed....:D

Anyway, you you placed the downloaded file in the PDA section, and the I:COM section on top is yellow, then you hit start. It will run through the installation, and the section that had the I:COM in it, will turn to a progress bar that is green. It should take about 3-4minutes in total to flash, and when done, the phone will reboot by itself, and Odin will dsay complete or success or something, but the main way to see if it's done, is when the phone reboots....

I followed the steps from this forum, and it worked like a charm. I only ticked box 2 & 3, clicked the PDA and selected the file I extracted. (there was a *.MD5 file and a *.DLL)

One thing that really pissed me off that was when I plugged in my phone with USB my windows 7 game me a device driver install error. I was like :wtf: I changed my drivers settings to "always search windows update(online driver search)" and it eventually installed all the proper drivers and then it picked up in ODIN with a yellow block as COM1. Clicked START and off it went... Took a couple of mins and when I came back my phone was restarting.

For those that have recently moved from GB to ICS you might find this handy

Odin Errors Read through here, might be of some help...

Success!

Since Odin had got stuck whilst trying to update, I was able to recover to the original GB (thanks Craig) state.

I then went the tried & tested route - I powered off the PC (Win 7), restarted. Used program manager to find all running Kies processes & killed them.

Disconnected internet & then dropped MS Security Essentials.

Started Odin & loaded the image, following Craig s instructions.

Connected the Note to a rear USB port this time, waited for Win 7 to update the drivers.

Put the Note into download mode & pressed start. This time the upgrade process started and completed, with progress bars on the Note and Odin.

So I'm busy now trying to find what is missing & needs to be re-installed.

Disappointing that ICS still does not rotate on the Home screen heh!

Thanks to all, especially Craig.

Thats y we all use apex or nova launchers. Stock and touchwizz are doggy doodie.

Nova.... Yes, that reminds me, I still need to load that... Mind you, the TW5 Launcher from the S3 is mighty fine, and was even snappier than Nova on my S2 I had a while back... I wonder how it performs on the Note... Seeing that 4.0.4 is such an improvement in terms of performance over GB, I'm thinking one should try TW5 launcher....

Well its still TW4 in ICS on note so not sure how you plan on doing that.

when I was on GB the alternative launchers looked really nice... except they lagged compared to TW. I think TW was GPU accelerated where the other launchers were not...

On ICS all the launchers are GPU accelerated? Can someone confirm before I go downloading them all again lol

Edit : confirmed. Go Launcher on ICS is a totally different experience compared to GB. GB is wasnt usable at all...
