I will gladly eat my words if it turns out I am wrong. Last year I called it down to the wire, early in the season. The year before, I sucked. So, maybe it is my year to be wrong again but I doubt it. One does not have to be an "expert of note" to see that a jump from tenth to winning does not come with some development and experience. Granted, we did it but that's cos we the BULLS! The stormers held a poor second half in their first outing and if that is the shape of things to come, then I better buy some steak cos I aint eating those words...

Of course, mine was a response to the first stormers non-sequitur "Stomers will win this year" and had more depth. I hope this has enough depth for your non-sequitur but I doubt it will. Tell me why I am wrong. Tell me why the stormers will win even an away semi berth. Tell me they are capable of a stunning performance. I am just saying that they are not.

Hope you're wrong. I was actually just upset that you predicted the Stormers finishing 8th and the second 'worst' of all the SA teams... :)

Stormers tend to lose their matches by under 7 points.
Just need a bit of luck this year, 2 or 3 games need to go our way.

And we don't have Luke this year.:)

Quite correct. If they could turn half their near-wins into wins, they would be in that last week of contention. Until they do, I remain a sceptic.

And just to fly in the face of my Loftus mentality, believe it or not, I think that the absence of Puke is a BAD thing - he had one helluva CC season. I just didn't appreciate his comments a few years back. Besides that, I can relate to his politics, believe it or not, without betraying my own volk! He really can play when has the motivation and I am sure the stripes will miss him. Luckily, they do have one of my favourite Boks to skipper now - BURGER!

I can only wish the stormers luck - they will need it...

It's the start of the seasom WeePee are happy.

Finishing 10th on this log doesn't mean much.
We saw what happened to the log-leading Sharks last year. :D

And the Reds...

Well thats me off to finding a new team to support this season. With all the players available you really wonder why plumtree is still there.

Easy there - the sharks only led the log when the bulls and chiefs both had games in hand. The second they played those byes to catchup, the sharks tanked. Weeks 7-9 were good for them but come 10 the chiefs took over albeit only for a bit, knowing full well that the real maestros were still to face weaker teams.

Sharks sucked tonight again. At least this time they can't blame the ref for giving it away. I do believe I predicted this earlier. I think we will see them improve their game now...

So the question that arises is how much of a part do referees play in the outcome of the match... we always bitch about refs but I was not actually watching this game but following online commentary. This is what I picked up :

1st half
2min Penalty to Sharks
5min Penalty to Cheetahs
7min Penalty to Sharks
14min Penalty to Sharks
29min Penalty to Sharks
34min Three penalties in a row to the Sharks
35min Penalty to Sharks
38min Penalty to Sharks
40min Penalty to Sharks

Total - Sharks 10 Cheetahs 1

Then : "Welcome back folks and in a bizarre set of circumstances, referee Jonathan Kaplan has been replaced by Pro Legoete because he has a stomach bug! But the show must go on..."

2nd half
47min Penalty to Cheetahs
55min Penalty to Cheetahs
57min Penalty to Cheetahs
60min Penalty to Cheetahs
66min Penalty to Sharks
69min Penalty to Cheetahs
73min Penalty to Cheetahs
75min Penalty to Cheetahs
76min Penalty to Sharks
79min Penalty to Sharks
80min Penalty to Sharks

Total - Sharks 4 (only improved by the consolation three in the last few minutes) Cheetahs 7

Great improvement by the Cheetahs on defense.
Riaan Viljoen also improving a lot from last week. Brilliant individual try by him.
The Mapoe experiment on center was a bit of a fail. But the only reason for that, is the fact that he never got the ball. Great on defense though.
Scrum still not 100%. Might be that Strauss had some sore ribs.

Well done my Boys!!!!!!!
GO CHEETAHS!!!!!!

Looks like the Sharks didn't listen in the 1st half.
Ref warned them....

So should we assume that both refs just interpret things totally differently or did the one team all of a sudden start transgressing in the second half while the other improved their discipline?

Kockett 5/10 did it. You got to have reliable goal kicker especially with how the refs are blowing the rucks and mauls this season..

@ Lancelot

Would you say the Sharks deserved to win with a performance like that?

All the balls lost in the tackle?
Poor passes not going to hand?
Kockott missing 5 kicks at goal?
1 or 2 poor line-outs?
Receiving kick-offs not taken cleanly?

lol
U guys blaming the ref again is predictable. :D

I fail to see any blame.... rereading my post all I see is questions being asked. The ref changes the penalty count flips 180 degrees. Why? As stated I did not see it on TV but the online commentary made it pretty apparent that something changed!
