Oneplus 6

Nothing cheap about the LEDs on the OnePlus 6. I don't like any features that sap battery without any major benefit. Always-on is something I don't think I'll ever enable on any device ever. If I really wanted similar functionality, Ambient Display is what I'd go for.

Hmm. Is there a difference between ambient and always on?

Basically this is what I am talking about.

On the pixel:

Ambient display, the display only comes on when the screen is either tapped, lifted or incoming messages wake it. It comes on shortly before switching off again. Like 5 seconds if that. Never actually timed it.

What's your battery levels like today? Took my phone off charge at 7am. Currently on 65% with mild usage.

I haven't used it on my phone, but I was under the impression it activates when you pick the phone up.

Correct. On the 6 it only comes on when you lift the phone. On the pixel it stays on.

Battery life seems decent so far. Used the phone quite a bit today already.

Hell man, I battle to get better than 4 hours sot... Was the same on my 5/5T though. Must be a combination of the app's I use and how I use the phone. Ie screen brightness levels etc

I find the adaptive brightness rather good on the 6. So mine is on. Been mostly indoors though, so don't think the brightness has gone passed 20-30%.

But yes, could be some of the apps you use. What brightness level you running?

Set it to auto earlier and I'm on 55% now. Brightness settings must be the biggest impact on battery drain? Surely?

I'm sure it's one of the biggest battery drainers. I'm on 30% now and at 6:45 SOT time. By the looks of it it's better than the pixel. Used to get 5-6 on the pixel.

You were on just under 4hours SOT, just over 4 hours ago. You have barely put your phone down since if you up to 6h45min now? 35% hit for around 2h45min SOT?

Great cup so far. Lots of surprises.

Anyhow,. Put the 6 on charge around 10%. Got over 8 hours out if it. Probably could've gone for another hour.

Yeah. 50%. Never been a fan of auto brightness. Thats probably where I take my hits.

Damn, that would blind me. My brightness level is usually close to the minimum unless I'm in a bright environment. My workspace is fairly dark though. Auto brightness works perfectly for me except at bedtime, when it gets too dark.

You will improve the lifespan of your battery if you don't let it get below 20% or charge to 100%. 80% is actually the recommended cut-off, but I can't get down with that. I usually unplug shortly after 90%.

Is there a way when rooted to change the vibration strength even more? The lightest setting still feels way over powered to me.

Not sure, but it's surprising to me that you find the light option too strong. Medium is a nice level for calls and notifications to my sensibilities.

I was referring to vibrate on tap. There must have been something wrong with my install. I flashed the stock ROM and it's much better now. Previously the lightest option felt like the strong option.

2 things I dislike on the one plus 6. The speaker is very dull. But that is no surprise to me, I was spoilt by the pixels dual speaker setup.

While the fingerprint scanner is fast, for me it's a hit and miss in many situations. I found that adding the same finger multiple times helps somewhat.

Other than that, brilliant phone, especially for the price tag.

Yeah, speaker is often listed as a weakness of the OP5/5T/6...

They changed the design and shape of the fingerprint reader. I’m also battling with it but face unlock is so good, I use that almost all of the time.
