b) Do the whole DTT story?

I understand technically you still are supposed to pay a TV license for DSTV, TopTV etc, but will it be the same for this service?

If this is so much cheaper than DTT, will the SABC actually use DTT?

None, Its a SABC license. It allows the ANC to broadcast propaganda at the expense of the public. The actual shows and so on could be ( and probably are) paid for out of advertising.

Good question, most newer monitors are coming with HDMI ports. The problem then is you're stuck watching TV on a small screen.

AS I understand it the current definition is that the device includes an analogue tuner, so it may be possible to ask for it to be removed when you buy it to not have to get the TV License, well, theoretically. I know if you send proof in that you removed it you can stop your license, how easy this is in practice I am not sure.

I wish they would just do it off the annual budget, would save so much money.

McGuywer It is not that straightforward, I believe if you have a DSTV decoder you need a TV License, even if you don't have a normal TV receiver. So, although you use a computer screen, you may still be liable for the TV License by virtue of being able to receive SABC TV via the service

I am wondering if anyone knows for sure how this will work.
