looks pretty dismal.

Hi Imagine

Another Telkom issue.

Your 2nd hop is shocking!

It seems like Telkom is running out of capacity on their exchanges!

No, you should recheck. His second hop is fine with Afrihost. It's shocking with OpenWeb.

Startrek Online running fine now, torrents downloading at full 2mbps, local ping around 20ms.

This is because he reset his session.

As Imagine later says, the problem returns a short while after resetting his router (which resets his session).

By changing to another ISP, the session is reset, and all will seem well, but, it does not fix the heart of the issue.

My suggestion remains, please call Telkom on 10210 and log a fault.

Forgive my ignorance, but could you please explain how connecting to another ISP (or resetting a session) can "temporarily" alleviate ADSL exchange congestion?

Once an exchange congestion problem is expected, Cybersmart tests the line using a SAIX account to prove or disprove the suspicion.

If the same problem exists using a SAIX (Telkom) account, the problem is most likely related to congestion on Telkom’s network.

Also had a chuckle at this:

If the third or fourth hop is greater than 80ms it is more likely that the ISP is throttling the account in some way.

Imagine101011, why not connect back to your OW account and post the results?

The problem is not necessarily exchange congestion.

It could be a faulty DSLAM port, weird config on the Telkom side, a corrupt port. Usually a Telkom port recreate can correct this.

It could also be that the exchange congestion is intermittent. Many different reasons.

All we know is that hop 2 is still on the Telkom exchangeand is a fault that you would need to address with them.

Same this side in Randburg area since about 5pm yesterday, general browsing not too bad but all other protocols under 2kb... cant even d/l a pdf doc.
On 4mb Titan uncapped.
Ticket logged, awaiting feedback.

Update:
They gave me an alternate login user/pass and all seems back to normal now. Will monitor over the next few days.
