Hi Mr. Beep,

I was wondering how much longer the Silver 2 for 1 special is going to run? http://www.openweb.co.za/special2.html I really want to switch over to Openweb, but I don't want to be paying for two ISPs unless I absolutely have to.

I am in the same boat as you are. I cancelled my Mweb 4mb ****capped, but will only be cancelled end of March. I wanted to take advantage of the Openweb 4mb Uncapped Gold thats on promotion (as that is the maximum I can afford), but unfortunately when asking MrBEEP, the only response I got is that the promotion will be valid as long as there are accounts available. As soon as all accounts have been sold then thats the end of the promotion. Oh and he also said he can confirm that these accounts are selling fast.

This puts me in a crap position as I would not have hesitated to signup for the 4mb gold and spend an extra R100 p/m for a better account. But not in the expense of losing money as I would not only have to pay Mweb for March, but also pay Openweb.

Guess I'll be taking my money to PluGG.

Hi Looney,

I'm afraid we are not in control of this. We are given an x number of accounts attached to y policies. We follow these to the t. If we do not follow these, we do not get offered future promotions.

I would rather place blame on your current ISP than on OpenWeb, as they are not releasing you from your contract.

There are many accounts you can purchase on our site that allows you to schedule for a future activation date. Take the Vanilla Uncapped as an example. These accounts are also not limited by availability. Link for your convenience: http://www.openweb.co.za/vanilla_uncapped.html

I have no reason to blame my current ISP for not releasing me from my contract as I signed the terms and conditions which state I need to give a calendar month's notice. This seems to be the standard for all ISP's selling uncapped accounts. I have given my notice and have to wait till end of March. Nothing I can do but ride it out.

I can however blame my ISP for not giving me an account that works to my satisfaction, but thats another story all together.

I was not blaming Openweb, I was simply stating my situation which does not seem to be in my favour.

Hi Looney

I agree with you that it is not an ideal situation, but we have the follow the terms set out to us.

Why not purchase on of our normal uncapped accounts? These you can schedule

Because I specifically require an account that allows me to stream Netflix and Hulu+ as this is my primary source of entertainment after giving up DSTV. I require an account that will not give me issues with streaming and no buffering. The uncapped gold seems to be the only account that will work for my requirements.

Guess who just joined the Openweb family? I'll be stuck paying for 2 isps for the rest of this month and April, but at least I can use the internet again!

Well, after a bit of a bumpy start (Thanks to MrBEEP for assisting and helping afterhours to get me going), I am now officially part of the OpenWeb family. Having moved from Afrihost, I can truly say that this is the best move I have made. (Netflix and Hulu+ streaming without a problem - Afrihost and MTN network was CRAP!!!)

my 4mg Gold Uncapped and Unshapped account is ROCKING!!! Now if Telkom can catch a wakeup and upgrade our exchange I will be taking this to 10mb...As soon as this happens I will be downloading the Internet :)

Wish I could say the same about my 4mb uncapped gold trial. I was given 48hrs to test the service and I can honestly say that I am not impressed with the quality of the gold account. Perhaps I got a dud account? But streaming Netflix and Hulu was a disappointment. Buffering every couple of minutes and really unusable. I switched to my plugg trial account and low and behold streaming worked perfectly.

I won't even bother testing the gold account for the last day as I have already made up my mind.

I was seriously considering joining the openweb family at the end of march, but this trial proved to be a disappointment. For the price you pay I expected much more.

Not just you. My 6Mbps Gold Uncapped trial was rubbish. Slower than my 4Mbps Mweb uncapped account. My line was achieving its full speed of 6Mbps on my capped Afrihost account. Openweb's DNS settings had no effect, nor did resetting my router. So no Openweb for me either.

Where are you guys based? I'm testing an OW Gold account in CPT and speeds seem to be erratic at the moment. Was much better earlier today. Experiencing the same as with my AH account.
