My torrents are up the creek again. Max 40kB/s now. Man, what the hell is going on?

BTW, what is nntp traffic used for?
 
Thanks Doc. Myself, also don't do NNTP during the day......well....except for today where I needed a 3MB file. International was killed with in 20sec...as in 0kbps......local...file not available. My problem for sure.

My theory is, and I *think* its the theory of a few folk, that high data users are *punished*. Why is it that when your account goes for a ball of chalk, you request new creds, the new account flies. No me that rules out line, exchange, router. I know the symptoms. I was a 1 star rated Axxess user.

It's the only logical thing I can thing of.

NNTP, you download off of news servers. Up and till a few months ago, it was the old school*elite* way of doing things as if done right there was no way of being traced. Basically you download a small NZB file into a download client, pick a server for download from and off you go. Once done, no need to share with others.

Aha, news servers. They are still a complete mystery to me. I've wasted cash on multiple astraweb and the like accounts but for the life of me could never get them working. Except once, when I woke up to episodes of schit I wasn't interested in, in my complete downloads folder. It never worked again for anything else...:D
 
If you're with OW, try the IS news server. Its free. :)
Obviously only used for legal things. Obviously.
 
News server really up and down for me this morning on a afterhours uncapped account.

he is tired of all the kark complaints. suggestions of usage shaping *gasp* yesterday. who knows. sipping cocktails in the northern hemisphere. apparently they having a nice summer in england. ibiza. the possibilities are endless for a ceo.
 
As I see this is people claiming they are shaped, not official word?

nope all quiet on that front. although beep has stated more than once that they dont monitor usage. but shaping has become more severe. this is just an observation based on my data usage stats.
 
Shaping is based on how busy the network is at any given time. Your contention ratio also plays a factor in shaping.

Nothing has changed for quite a few years now, thus any theory to the contrary is just that, a theory.

Yes, folks on shaped products will indeed be shaped. I'm afraid until Telkom drops their IPC and wholesale costs, this will be the reality we have to live with :(

Yebo. I'm just pulling less per day during the week compared to previous months. This is what I meant by usage stats.
