I'm afraid twitch will continue having issues until twitch themselves wake up and fix their issues.

They have far too many users, and their infrastructure cannot cope.

We have set twitch on top priority yet it still buffers. Then again, when I use an LTE device on Vodacom, the same issue.

I'm afraid there is not much we can do. All we can advise is for clients to email twitch on mass, not that you would receive anything more than an automatic reply. We tried.

Interesting, I've never had a problem with Twitch on OpenWeb 2Mbit up until last weekend, and I never any problems with MWEB 1Mbit. Last weekend was quiet, around 100,000 viewers tops, as there were no LoL or Dota 2 tournaments.

When there are huge tournaments, it's normally the chat that breaks, I've never experienced lag due to 400,000 viewers online.

You can google twitch issues. Numerous clients the world over are having issues. Sometimes you are lucky and connect to a good server and streaming is perfect...other times you get buffering even on low.

Twitch really DO need to upgrade and improve their systems.

With Twitch on medium:

Telkom Internet - no problem
FNB Connect - no problem
OpenWeb - lag

Been testing a bit. Some servers seem fine, even streaming well on high, while other lag a bit or won't even load at all. Doesn't make much sense that it is an Openweb issue if that is the case? For instance, DOTA2 and SC2 works fine on High, but GTA V lags.

Happy to test with you, want to paste the links to the ones you're testing, with their results? I will then reply with the tests from various ISPs. Anyone else experiencing Twitch issues should join. :)

What I've noticed with Twitch is that I might refresh the link a few times then it runs fine.

I've tested this with capped and uncapped accounts from Mweb (friends 4mb uncapped premium) / AFrihost (capped and uncapped) / Openweb (trail account only) all within 20 minutes on the same stream and they all performed similarly poorly.

Then 20min later I would log into that same stream and have no problems at all. While sometime the poor perf can be attributed to local issues...Twitch themselves also have some problems to sort out. Bloody annoying :D

I don't have the option to adjust quality. Unwatchable. These types, non partnered ones where one can't change quality, used to work with my OpenWeb.

Telkom Internet

Attempt 6 - can't adjust quality - stutter

Yep.

Thank you, which OpenWeb account?

4Mbps Gamers King. I'm in Welkom.

PS: I only posted a few that works. There are quite a few that don't.

Speedtest shows your download speed currently, which is shaped as per my earlier reply due to the network being very busy.

Would it be better if we prioritise speedtest like other ISP's? It seems like speedtest has become the bees knees in speed monitoring. Unfortunately, because it downloads a file to test your speed (and downloads are shaped during busy periods) it will show a slow result.

Meanwhile, browsing, which is never shaped, is running at full speed (unless you are downloading during shaped periods), but speedtest does not show this as it does not monitor browsing speeds, it monitors download speeds.

We have debated the speedtest priority topic for a long time. We would certainly get alot less support 'speed complaints'. But is it ethical? I don't think so.

6Mb account. This is pretty horrible:

Somethings definitely up today.

What benefits are there to prioritising it? It seems a truer reflection of the line at the time, and more ethically correct method to not prioritise it at all...

Browsing unshaped? Can't even use Facebook...!!! So then Facebook is also "downloading"? "Gold" ripp-off!

Browsing is completely unshaped.

If you have no downloads open during shaping periods (even torrent seeding) and still cannot browse, kindly raise a support ticket so that we can investigate: [email protected]

I'm afraid I disagree with your closing sentiment. Gold uncapped is loved by many, and indeed not a 'rip-off'.

The only benefit would be that folks that demand full speed 24 / 7 on a shaped product would see full speed on speedtest, and then be happy? I'm not sure. I could never quite see the benefit.

It is however very difficult to explain to folks that speedtest is not showing them their browsing speed, but their download speed. Speedtest does indeed not show you the speed result of every port, only a very small fraction of what your line consists of.

Speedtest is meaningless during shaped periods. Downloads will be slow, thus speedtest will be slow.

What do you think?

I'm in agreement. It might have marginal benefits in terms of seeing that the line isn't faulty. It might work best to prioritise mybb's speedtest and leave speedtest.net's alone. Could be used for diagnostics to an extent?

Perhaps that is a solution?

Anyone else have an opinion on this matter?
