Ja it's pretty good... 1.6mbps = ~200kBits/s. You will never achieve the full 256kBit/s.

As a rule of thumb, I want 2megabits (linespeed) devided by 10, instead of 8, to compensate for network overhead. (I could be wrong here on higher line speeds... never went 10mbits or beyond)

The real test however comes if you can actually download something at that speed... Speettest results can be a little skewed.

Thank you for your reply!

Another question (to all) - I'm on Leon gold 2mb account, and in the description it stated that this account is optimised for gaming... but at the moment my gaming is not so great - pings are around 220. This is to EU servers of WoT and WoWP. When I was on Mweb (left due to their throttling policies) my pings were around 165-175, which was acceptable, now 220 is not so terrible, but not enjoyable either, and then there are some packet losses.
Should I ask MrBeep to move me to another network, (from what I read on the forum, it might solve my problem)?

That opens a whole new can (can's?) of worms.

Ping jumping up to 220ms (from CT) could indicate anything from your exchange is getting a little busy, telkom upgrades, unshaped weekend, seacom employee downloading porn, suicidal hammerhead-shark, EA taking over blizzard (WoT?), Europeans standing up to low 50mbit connection speeds, Sun is getting into the weekend spirit or God just saying "NO".

Do a tracert, reset your modem, try another account....

BEER ALL AROUND!

Oh, do a pingtest.net test.

packetloss over wireless is doable, but should not happen on dsl. This could indicate distance to exchange, bad wiring or interferance (SNR).

Downstream Upstream

how does mine look like ?

Hi I'm a visitor from the mweb side, I'm considering moving over to openweb gamer king

I have a few questions,

1. Are you on the IS backbone?
2. Do you have a news server(usenet)
3. if yes to 2 Do you you shape or(and) throttle to server at any time of the day?
4. Which of the three undersea cables do you use(having bad experiences with seacom)

Hi, welcome to the dark side. Please stay, we have cookies!

(1) Openweb does use the IS backbone.

(2) You may use the IS News Server

(3) NEVER throttled. OpenWeb shapes bandwidth according to network load at any given time. It's completely dynamic. We also have frequent UNSHAPED weekends and evenings.

(4) Openweb uses all 3. This redundancy makes sure you're never offline if anything happens on one backbone.

You also get free access to over 1400 WiFi hotspots around the country.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm having bad speed problems this end. traceroute looks fine. all hops are below 60ms. my line is syncing with downstream of 1024kbps, but the upstream is syncing at 96kbps. gaming to local servers are impossible. pings are at a constant 999ms. any ideas?

Is there any way for me to see my usage? I got a Gamers king account and just want to see what I use during the month. I am on the Openweb client portal and can't see anything like that.

Edit: found this http://users.isdsl.net/index.php thanks

Hi I'm a visitor from the mweb side, I'm considering moving over to openweb gamer king

I have a few questions,

Heres the answers you need ...

1. Fill in forms to leave MWEB
2. Downgrade to cheapest package
3. Stop order for MWEB
4. Get banking details
5. Do EFT for final month
6. Forget about throttling for good

FTFY :D

For the record - ex MWEBBER on OW and happy a pig in k@k:D

Does anyone here stream from 1channel...? Do you find it smooth or does it buffer a lot on certain movies/shows...?

it all depends on what links you use

some site limit streaming
and some have high quality that buffers also

what is your internet speed?

and what site (link) did u use

How you get your router to pick up 4mb? Adsl check says 4 but router says 2

i phone 10210,told the guy to do a port reset,he did it but didnt help, then i told him on there site it shows i have 4mbps but my router only shows2,he told me to turn the the router off and told me to turn it back on and then i was on 4mbps

Usually smooth. But the quality usually isn't that good

That's exactly my point. I get quite a bit of buffering and a lot of it is SD content at best and this is with a 6mb GOLD account. Just wondering where the issue is.

u got gold?

how is gold for u?

and youtube?

i want to go for the gold, but its alot tbh,and if its worth getting it over gamers

how is the speed drops in youtube, and streaming in genaral on the gold, and what gold is it?
