OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread

I agree, Mrbeep was unnecessary to give such a stupid reply to a simple question.

Its always nice to know how much bandwidht you used a previous month. Just to compare with other isp's

Just a stupid example: my bud tells me he downloads about 100gb a month with "isp1", then i say i dowloaded 150gb using the same line. Then the bud can realize that he needs to move over to openweb. Its win win, and openweb gets extra client. People love to see figures, numbers.

Just my 1c

users need to stop judging ISP's on a monthly basis, and rather judge on a per session basis.

Openweb is leaps and bounds ahead of any other ISP when it comes to infrastructure(even though its not their own) and support.

personally i judge ISPs on :-
-latency to europe
-How "snappy" browsing feels
-and if youtube starts streaming 720p straight away

This simple criteria hasnt been filled anywhere else. So lets stop with quantity, and judge with quality.
It will give less grey hairs as well.

My account was completely useless today, 10 - 20KB/s on any protocol. Support was no help either as I was asked to wait till 17:30, exactly when shaping decreases heavily...

Not a happy customer today.

Edit:
And at 16:48 all is well again. I dunno...

MrBEEP pls shed some light here.

What I find baffling is everybody pays the same amount for the exact same product, but everybody's experience with it is very different - ranging from it feeling like dial-up to full line speed unshaped; and that's just me - one account over 3 months.

we thrilled you having a good experience, but read the thread and you notice how much the same accounts varies between users. can this thread pls be for raising issues and solving them instead of saying your happy. your not participating means your happy so sit back and enjoy while others get sorted out.

ok then, sitting back and watching the tears flow.

My Gold account let's me view usage ;_;

MrBEEP, is this because I'm on Gold or am I on that "per account model IS" account? Not complaining as it pumps like a beast but just a bit curious.

Dear Mr Beep

My 2mb ADSL line, with the cheapest 2mb uncapped Openweb account, generally runs at 1.4mb/sec, which is ok. Since the upgrade to a 4mb line last Saturday, it is now running at 2.5mb/sec most of the time

Would I see an increase in speed if I upgraded my 2mb service with Openweb from a 2mb one to a 4mb one, or would it only have a marginal effect?

Sometimes during the day, especially between 11h00 and 15h00, my speed drops to 0.05mb, but usually improves after that

Thanks

I looked up your ticket history and see that your ticket was escalated to our core engineers this morning.

A core engineer (which is equal to a Tier 4 level) has been working on your issue all day.

We do care, and have addressed the issue. I am sorry you feel otherwise.

This is the nature of ADSL.

Over the last two months we have seen a DRASTIC (and I mean DRASTIC) increase in Telkom related faults. Unfortunately, no matter how good your account is, if your Telkom exchange is congested, or there is a fault on your line, you will experience issues.

Our shaping is identical across the board. It is however the different levels of performance provided by the different factors that creates the perception of inequality in shaping.

MrBEEP pls shed some light here.

Some legacy Gold accounts do allow for usage monitoring.

We have discussed this matter in great detail since it has been raised this morning, and most of the folks here are in agreement that usage monitoring is important.

I have instructed the developers to implement a full set of usage monitoring in our new CP launching next year.

Hi Chris,

Kindly PM me for a trial account. I think it would be best for you to try it out before you commit.

Upgraded:2meg to 4meg today!!!!

Check speed test:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 3240 kbps (405 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 404 kbps (50.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 42 ms
12/6/2013 10:07:29 PM

Now I need to know the following. I'm currently on a 2 meg still by openweb, and havent upgraded the line speed by them. My router shows 4 meg down. Will I see an "more" increase in downloading by speedtest if I upgrade by Openweb to 4meg line.

Thanx

Chris

Hi MrBEEP, it's just frustrating not knowing whats going on. Your service is typically very solid and I'm happy 90% of the time, but when things go wrong then no one can say what the issue actually is or why there was a problem to begin with.

So far Openweb has given me the best service of all the ISP's I've used so I wont be going anywhere. :)

Hi MrBeep

Back to a crawl. It was right till aprrox. three hours ago.
Speed was +/-300KB/s now 20KB/s.

The network has been completely unshaped since 19:00 last night.

Any slows speeds experienced between now and Monday morning at 8am is a Telkom or router or similar fault.

The network is running far below capacity, thus shaping will not even be considered
