Hi there mr beep. I have an openweb gold 2mb acc which mentioned shaping during busy hours but seriously from the hours of 7 to 5 on weekdays I'm barely able to open Google let alone any other web page. Priority on gaming but I cant even log into xbox live during these hours. I was originally with mweb and left them for open web due to the promise of "zero throttling" but honestly I'd rather take mwebs constant throttling over what we're getting here. At least I could login to xbox live whilst being throttled. Upon phoning support we are given stories that our package is built that way but come on who on earth can do anything productive during the day with what seems like 5 to 10 Kbps. I apologize for the rant but I'm in dire need of something to work with here.

I thought we were passed this crap. Im also back to this sort of service and no its not the exchange

This makes me seriously nervous ....

I have just asked to go onto a Gold package - using the reasoning you get what you pay for - so that I can get some browsing sanity during the day.
Currently on gamers king, and have the same symptoms as you have described.....

the official response

thats all good and well but it doesnt explain why ppl who are paying more for 'superior accounts' who were lead to belief they are paying for a superior product are getting poorer performance than cheaper accounts.

why are cheaper accounts performing better when it is advertised as the opposite leading to ppl paying more?

one only need to read this to know what im talking about http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/586900-Openweb-Gold-Slow

Please stop trolling here.

:wtf:

the above posters must too be trolls mr beep.. and the ppl in the gold complaints thread also.

Laaitjie(s) at school?

Contention ratios will still come into play.

Titan is an entry level product, with a high contention ratio.

Unshaped means no protocols prioritization. All traffic is treated equally.

It does not mean guaranteed full speed 24 / 7

@MrBEEP, does contention ratios come into play on the Freedom Capped Unshaped packages?. It says on the website that it is unshaped 24/7 but what about the contention ratios? I'm thinking of going capped unshaped instead of uncapped shaped.

Freedom Capped has a much lower contention ratio compared to the uncapped products.

Capped is always a good buy

I'm getting 18KB/s browsing on Gold.

Supports reply:
"I am uncertain as to what your activities were prior to your concerns, so trouble shooting is procedural.
It is peak shaping time currently, thus shaping will be enforced on heavy protocols.
An hour or so after you have closed your peak time download, your browsing protocol becomes unshaped again.
Please note that a speedtest and U-tube are downloads."

I turned my router on after 8AM this morning and used about 30MB up and download.

Just want to say thanks for the awesome weekend to OW. Thanks for listening to concerns regarding weekend support & general issues on mondays. Great job guys!

Hi Del Piero,

I am glad you are enjoying your experience.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

When you sign up for a Titan special, it looks like you are either lucky or unlucky because Openweb randomly decide whether they feel like giving you a MTN backbone account or IS backbone account. This leaves me very unhappy. A friend signed up for the Titan 10Mbps account, and got assigned a MTN network account, so I though awesome I will also sign up for one, and as luck has it I get a IS based account, which is terrible.

Can't say I am happy with this at all.

How do you see on which backbone you are?

Just email OW and tell them you would like to move to MTN?
I have, this is the reply I received from Leon:

Hi David Unfortunately with Titan you cannot choose a backbone. The default backbone is automatically assigned based on different factors. Kind regards Leon Senior Engineer (Core Network)

and then this:

Hi David Unfortunately not. Titan is an entry level product. It is like booking the cheapest seat on an airplane. It is cheap because all the frills are removed from it in order for us to be able to afford it at this rate Kind regards Leon Senior Engineer (Core Network)

Absolutely terrible.

For me it is easy, once you connect to the account, you can do a traceroute and see what hops show up.

But for simplicity, I found that if your username is [email protected] = IS backone (terrible) or [email protected] then it will be on the MTN backbone, which is much better for browsing ect during the day.

My username is not an email, just OW followed by some numbers.

To me it does not matter too much but would like to know for interest sake.
