OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread

Very dead in the water today. Have logged a support issue, waiting on feedback. Strangely Google searches work, but browsing is non-functional. Can't even open Openwebs site or News24. So back onto 8ta backup dongle for now!

Today .... I have had this for a while.

As stated earlier - I suspect this to be a Telkom oops.
I am about to do something silly, and move around to other ISPs for a month or so each to test my theory. (If anything, I will certainly get some experience first hand).

If I have slow speeds or dead days as you put it on other ISPs - then I can confirm to myself that it is Telkom who never prepared for the upgrades, and will again settle with an ISP.

What I cant seem to fathom, is that some days I am dead with my OW account, but am fine with AH. On other days, neither are very effective ... but, I will figure it out practically in my own uneducated way I am sure.

Also, the exchange congestion - that thing that gets thrown around - seems to be confusing -
if I am slow during the day, its exchange congestion because of business.
If I am slow at night, it exchange conjestion because of residential .... mmmm?

Anyway, I feel your pain - and I can assure you, you are not alone on this .... since December, this has become the norm for me, and its driving me insane.

This is the first real problem I have had, aside from a having a few new user accounts needing to be reissued. So possibly I've been fortunate. However I still have not heard back from technical at OW after one of their ladies assured me it would be looked into, line tested and feedback provided.

Yet on 8ta I can browse, post my 2c here and do banking, etc no issue. :confused:

So with the latest ADSL ping-pong fest between Telkom and ISP's we may need to stock up on popcorn and icy brews to wait this one out.

That is great news!

The shaping policy is the same, however the difference comes in with the contention ratios.

You will have a lower contention ratio on Gamers King compared to Standard, therefore Gamers King overall will provide you with a better experience.

If you signup for the Gamers King Uncapped now, February 2014 will be Free.

Hi MrBEEP, I've decided to go with OpenWeb :)

Quick question - what is the difference in shaping policy between GamersKing and the standard uncapped accounts? Was about to sign up for Standard uncapped when I noticed your signature ;)

Does GamersKing have lower priority for anything that Standard doesn't?

Quick edit: Also by signing up for that account will I not have to pay for the month of February? If I'm understanding the promo correctly ;)

MrBeep. The Gamers King (Downloaders Bling) account. Is it on IS or MTN. Have 2 friends who are seriously considering it, but they want to be on IS and not MTN.

On the basis of my (limited) experience, I think you made the right choice. Gold Power has been flawless for me so far as well.

i know gold have it but not gamers king

gold power is a cheap gold so wonder if it also have that "+" of the normal gold

No it does not.

Streaming can be shaped during peak if the network is very busy

Half my invoices dont show, most of them say they are pending yet they are paid. just a heads up

I am tired of the verbal sparring with your support staff. I don't like being patronised as if I'm a kid and must be gratefull for what I get and then to tell me that your cost is X rands per megabit second, that is part of your business plan, not mine.
I complain, your support person tells me by the looks of the amount used, my line is perfoming fine. The actual statement should be "my line WAS perfoming fine". Don't tell me what the line WAS doing, because it's not doing that right now!
I have been an Openweb subscriber for quite a while, beforehand on an 8MB Silver Line absolutely no hassles. Now I upgrade to a Gold Line, and it's problems. I did cc you in the last two correspondence emails.
Please sort me out.
