I replaced the router, spent R500 on Friday night... there is no change. There's nothing wrong with the Telkom line either, never has been, and in case you are wondering I used another ISP's account on that line, the problem goes away. Not arguing any further, voting with my wallet!

Mrbeep why is it that during weekdays its like my internet doesnt exist in kuilsriver. Exactly 5 pm everything returns to normail.

MrBeep seems to avoid this question at all costs, considering ive been asking the same for the last 2 days and he just answers other questions

I have replied to your PM

I started with bad service with openweb and at my 3rd account everything was good for 5 months and now back to bad service. and customer support is not any good form of help .

This is not normal.

Kindly PM me so that I can take a look

Thanks for the Info but as it stands I cant even open google. My concern is that this is ridiculous. Shapping is fine but this is nonexistent. Its a bit hectic to pay r649.00 to only have internet at night and weekends vant do any business during the day when im home. Thats my only concern.

Had the same performance since starting with them as well. Was told by their helpdesk that this is normal, and only browsing should be unshaped during the day. Anything else including speed test will be shaped. Also leaving for a capped account somewhere else.

Is there something wrong with OpenWeb atm? My internet crawling on OW but flying when I switch to my MWEB account - what gives?

There are no general issues currently.

However, this does not rule out localised issues.

Please PM me with your details so that I can have a look

Had heavy lagging and dropped packets during gaming this morning, but a port reset sorted it. Good luck fellas.

The problem here is that, unlike many of your clients, I am NOT stupid. You are an Internet Solutions reseller. The network, at work, is giving the same issues at the same times. I think your hands are tied and you are limited in what you can do, as IS especially have an attitude that they are the cat's whiskers and screw you, even if you're an ISP reselling their rubbish.

At work, we run servers on public IPs, and these issues, wreak havoc with my projects. I have taken the opportunity with the fact that we're moving office to get MWEB business installed. Why? Because it works, when you need it. The issue with the hard/soft capping is not an issue here, because if I catch people using torrents at work, there's trouble. Since we know what the AUP is, if big downloads are required, we can plan for that.

I recently spent two weeks chasing a bug in my code, and it was not a bug, it was Internet Solutions!

I am going overseas really soon, and last night, I really battled to get into the corporate e-mail system... Disconnected the ADSL, plugged in the Vodacom 3G and got it right away!
All my life long, IS has been the bane of my life, they are the worst ISP I have ever come across, I would much rather use iBurst if there was no other option in this world.

Correct!
For business situations, I know what works, and what doesn't.
I went to Openweb because of my over-reaction to the throttling. However when I sat down, and looked at how much I ACTUALLY DOWNLOAD, there's really no need to get all reactive and toyi-toyi about the throttling. Connectivity is priority, the rest is all just a nice-to-have, and for after hours' playing. When it comes to making money... screw the torrents, and the NZBs, when the bucks are made, a separate line can be put in for that crap.

I know a MWEB BUSINESS account, with a leased router (Cisco 807) is what will work, and it will work, in the most demanding circumstances. I stick with what I know. I don't know Keoma Wright from a bar of soap, but I do know MWEB have been around for a long time, right from when I got onto the internet the first time. As I said, rather the devil I know (Hernshaw) than the devil I don't

To elaborate further.
1) I have no control over the internet at work, until NOW!
2) I download a fair amount of British TV shows at home. The total of that falls well below the throttling threshold of MWEB, because I am so much at work, and traveling, I really don't have that much time for TV.
3) Openweb sucks... even on supposed "uncapped weekends". The weekend of the 1st of Feb, I had to download an HTTP file from a Rapidshare-like service... 3 times because it failed, and it took the ENTIRE DAY to download 700Mbytes because they not only throttle torrents, you see OpenWeb are very clever, they throttle file sharing sites too, even the obscure Chinese ones. I proved this by playing with my TCP packets... obfuscating the contents, and noticed how I could blaze stuff down M2M sockets, with encrypted payloads, and working with static IPs of the two devices.
4) I have never experienced shaping with MWEB, not at any stage, which means I can be assured they're not fiddling with the packets. Throttling is a different thing, in OpenWeb's case achieved by dropping a packet or several every n time periods, which is done by Internet Solutions. The idea is to waste time by forcing the TCP stack to re-send the lost packets. This wreaks HAVOC with embedded TCP stacks, causing the equipment to eventually lock up. Because of this my code now has a periodic reboot service.

I take it you are cancelling and are not a happy OW customer? :p

Sorry bud, I am not taking the pi$$ - well I am - but I do so enjoy your style, and found your thread quite entertaining.:D
Hope whatever you choose you come right. :)

 that's a lot of mula...

I have been ultra heavy handed on OpenWeb, as I have always had a fair deal from them.
The first week of Feb, I was treated like a kid ( or should I say treated like dirt ) with the attitude, that if I don't like their policy tough!!
I upgraded from an 8 MB Silver ( 2 for the price of one) to the 10MB Gold Power package. I got worse than what I've had since my opening package ( I was getting about 5% to 15% of my expected bandwidth). I was even sent email to show me what my used MB was, keyword 'WAS" as it did not happen anymore after that.
I complained and got snotty remarks and answers - I have the emails and PM's to show. Currently, for the last while I have been getting at least 30% of my expected bandwidth ( I work from home.) and will not fault OW on this, as that is all that i asked for.
My exchange is clean, at the worst, the max I get for google.co.za tracert is 15 ms.

OW my request is thus.... Give me at least 30% (of my 10Mb Gold Power) during the daytime and open the taps in the evening. This way I satisfy my wife (Mnet Deprived) and can still access my VPN link to Cape Town as well as cater for my kids in the evening. Maybe a new package offering?

The ball is in your court, and I do not want an answer "Shaping is Dynamic"

not sure why you guys are having issues, all I know is I needed to download a 2gig file at home at 3pm this afternoon, and it was done within the hour

I am not currently having issues per say. I am getting my expected BW and am grateful for it. My issue is consistency which I did not have before. I have kept the PMs private & will do so out of respect for OW,

Hi Patrick

I am happy to hear your fault is resolved at this stage.
