I doubt it. My MWEB capped account runs at full speed on torrents. I just don't want to use it because it's only a 2gb backup account. I've even tried with another router, but torrents on my Openweb account simply crawl.

Which Openweb account do you have?

My NNTP speed has been maxing my line today so ... hoping that IS/OW has done something .... leave it like it is now please. Yesterday I setup MRTG to graph the speed coming out of SABnzbd as well so I can see when the speed drops (cause my router can't do that), I'll only see SAB speed drop so if I download using something else it will drop too - so a tad false reading but good for my purposes.

IS has a star rating system from 5 to 1, where you drop into different levels depending on your usage in relation to others on the network.

Maybe your speed problems are NNTP specific? How does it go on other protocols?

As far as I know the IS star rating system doesn't apply to us. Is is an upstream provider, but Openweb employs their own shaping policies, not those of IS.

MrBeep has said countless times that Openweb doesn't throttle or monitor usage, which is exactly what the IS star system does.

rarely use torrents. just nntp. so if i have an international news server it would go faster?

NNTP has been really slow for me last couple of days during office hours too, on Silver 10mbps uncapped. Maxing out between 250-300k/sec, though I'm led to believe this is normal for daytime shaping rules.

i have 1mb standard but also a new account. what IS star rating are you referring to? when i left past 9 this morning i was doing 21KB/s on NNTP
ALso slow NNTP on a new gold account, where about in cape town do you stay?

an additional expense though.
Why use News servers at all?

If Torrents are too slow, there is a service that downloads torrents for you at very fast speeds and then you just ftp it to your computer. I haven't used it for a while, but it works quite well, especially if you are experiencing severe shaping.

Hey Friends,

Just a quick note to let you know that all new Uncapped orders (including promotions) from now until end February will offer FREE pro rata access until end February 2013. This is subject to the activation of a debit order.

Signed up and got approved to be activated 1 March. Is there anyway to take advantage of this and get the account going now already?

At this moment 1mb line direct downloads 50kbps, torrents, 15-20kpbs, what happened the last 2 weeks?

Not sure if this is the correct thread, but can anybody give me feed back on the Openweb 4mb Business Uncapped Account? Any Throttling during day time?
